I currently own a V70 T5 2001 and want to know if it is possible to upgrade to the performance of the R. What seperates the R engine from the T5? Is it a larger turbo, or overal larger engine. Im just curious if it is possible to throw in the R turbo and successfully improve the performance of my car?
Thanks.

wow, guys, have a or a valium and take the edge off, he's just asking a question.
So, turbo11 said:
"I currently own a V70 T5 2001 and want to know if it is possible to upgrade to the performance of the R. I'm not the most knowledgeable about this, but a few things are:
The engine is a 2.5L (isn't the T5 2.3?) and dual intercoolers (is T5 single?) but there are also differences in the braking, cooling(?), suspension (mixed blessing ) drive train--AWD, just for starters.
For my money, rather than bolt on a R turbo, I'd go with an ECU upgrade from a shop like IPD which is designed for your vehicle, etc.
Good luck.

With an ECU update and exhaust (perhaps downpipe), you can match or top the R in a straight line on a sunny day. What you won't be able to do it match the AWD grip of an R or the variable suspension (4C).
On the bright side, some R owners will tell you that a properly modified non-dynamic system is better than 4C. Not all see it as a panacea.

But you will be hard pressed to match its handling and impossible to match its traction advantage.
Yannis

Re: 01' V70 R vs. T5. (GrecianVolvo)

If I get an ECU upgrade i really like the idea of the BSR one (similar in price to the one they sell on IPD) Because it allows u to install yourself, download upgrades via computer to the module, and convert back to stock settings to avoid dealer check- ups. You also don't have to send in your ECU which is huge in my books. My question is : With an ECU upgrade such as this, oh and i forgot to mention it gives you 300 horses aposed to 280 or so with the IPD, am i going to blow out my engine with something like this, or my turbo? If so what upgrades can i do to avoid the wear and tear on the engine with all the extra horses?? Any advice is great!
Thanks.

Entirely your choice.
