Howdy. Been a while since I've posted. Profile is wrong now that I'm in Pitt.
So last night the car started fine. I went to store and it started getting louder. Where normally it would purr with the turbo it now does the same thing but much louder and causes a vibration through the car. It feels as though it has lost A LOT of power which completely changed how i watch cars and pull out. The check engine light didnt come on until today when I went to the grocery store.
I started to question the turbo, a friend (who knows some cars not volvos) suggested turbo bearing. I'm assuming the S60 doesnt have the traditional ball bearing turbo but maybe instead the liquid bearing?

Someone else when I searched was questioning their turbo and it was said that it doesnt "wear out" but these 3 things were often things that aged
1) TCV
2) Vacuum lines
3) improperly set waste gate
Do any of those parts describe my issue if they had gone bad? I am at a loss here. I've got 11ty tools here (I'm a big fan of jeeping and left my baby at home) but I am lost here.
I'd just drop itoff at a shop but a week before 1st final of 4 and I'm not about to much up stuff before law school finals. Then I need to drive to TX for a job the next week. Has anyone got any ideas. They would be much appreciated.
EDIT: Oh and it has only been driven 1600 miles since August (i take the bus everywhere for free) and it has 91600 miles on an 01 S60 T5

It really sounds like you lost a charge air pipe. One of the hoses has probably blown off. That would make lots of noise, that would cause complete loss of turbo power, and that would also cause the idle/overall engine quality to deteriorate drastically. Follow the pipes around under your hood and look for one thats just flopping around.

Re: (Turb04S60)

If Turb04S60 is right, it's probably just loose, causing a loss of pressure. If the charge air hose came off completely the car would stall pretty quickly (ask me how I know).

Lots of things can go awry that net a loss of power and they're not all automagically caused by the turbo.
Speaking of which this past month I had the S80's MAP sensor located on the air charge pipe located between the intercooler and the ETM fail. Until I replaced the sensor myself the car had no power at all--even though it's a six cylinder with twice as many turbos to go bad if they did.

If i cant find it I already made an appointment with a mechanic to test drive it on monday, great shop and person who recommended him said he went in with a problem, guy fiddled for 5 min and sent him on his way, car fixed and all
