I did a search on this already and was unsuccessful. I know someone here had their calipers painted red. Any info on how much this would cost and how durable it is?

I'm toying with the idea of painting mine an orangish color (to match the interior) and doing black powdercoated wheels.

How do you all even think that woud look?

Re: Painting Calipers?? (05BruzaS60r)

Well, you have to use caliper paint so it may not be available in orange unless custom made.
Not a big deal to do
Depending on how perfect a job you want, it could be done with the calipers on the car but more preferable and a better job will result when they're removed and off the car.
If they are nearly new with no rust, all that's needed is a good sand or heavy scuff
(follow the directons on the car) and spray away, (the paint comes in either spray cans or it can be actually brushed on.
(Spraying is preferred)
I plan on doing my "new" 2000R soon, the calipers are rusty and look lke crap, especially since the rest of the R is near perfect.
I'm doing yellow (on a silver car) with some yellow highlights in other areas on the car to tie it all in

What "other" areas?!?

and Yellow?!?!? I'd do Sonic Blue or red calipers on a silver V70R

Well, that's your taste, not mine, Sonic blue??????????

Silver cars with ANY blue on them is my most Unfavorite combination.
Silver cars with blue (not Nordkap, real BLUE) leather to me is quite ugly and quite boring
Red, been there, done that. http://********************/smile/emthdown.gif I'm not a fan of red calipers anymore, very old school.
I like COLOR
Silver and yellow go very well together, look at some famous silver race cars and
look at any Silver 911 with yellow seat belts and yellow calipers, from the past several years, very common.
As for other areas, don't know yet.
Takspeed yellow and blue trunk badge is on
Maybe a THIN single side stripe in yellow. We have one on the Black '00 and it looks very good, lots of complements
I will probably paint the "R" indentation on the wheels yellow
Maybe a cross angle hood/fender stripe? (or maybe not)

If you plan on doing it do it right. Spray paint is ok, but not durable. Brush on is messy and also not durable.

If you plan on powder coating your wheels, powder coat your calipers.
Not true.
I've sprayed calipers that have lasted for years and thru the winters (salt)

please don't paint anything orange - please!

lol ok but my seats are orange.

its just a thought at this point. if i do this i don't want to paint the r, so spray painting might be difficult.

so what lol!? my seats are beige! i'm not looking to paint my calipers that way!

no orange unless you're sponsored by home depot or something.

i can't believe i am begging people not to do things to their cars today....

Re: (TGO)

Why do you care what someone ELSE does to his or her car?

i don't really.

but i'm trying to save him from having other people posting up pics of his car online and laughing

seriously though, anyone not willing to take the criticism of a distasteful mod shouldn't post it up on a public forum. wouldn't you think?

not to mention he asked for opinions...

but you're right, it is his car and he can do what he wants...so i say why stop at orange?? fuschia would stand out so much more! And if you could make them glow in the dark - OMGZ!

Re: (TGO)

I'm always up for a good laugh, I'm sure there is more than one car in this country running around with ORANGE calipers!
(somewhere)

Re: Painting Calipers?? (JRL)

Jim - I'm kinda surprised by your response. I remember asking you yellow calipers on a silver wagon and you said no.

In any case, please post pics of your 00 R. Curious to see the silver/yellow contrast.

yea but beige isn't quite as striking as orange.

i welcome comments/ criticisms. i just don't want to have black wheels on a black car. i gotta add some kind of contrast.

Don't think I did, may have, but I wouldn't mess up the (new) R's calipers, they're so nicely done.
I may just do mine silver, who knows!
This will be the last thing I do to it anyway, probably late winter, early spring
Only reason it that one side is rusty

i saw some guy in jersey city last week painting his calipers/rotors bright orange!! he had a WHITE camry! He got everything too...the brake lines, everything! lol!

that being said, i don't think orange is a nice contrast! especially considering the only orange you're gonna get is the flourescent kind they use to mark the streets for gas lines and stuff!!

Re: (TGO)

No one has mentioned that the paint on the R caliper changes colors when you over heat them. (Silver to Gold) So if you take off that paint you are loosing the indicator that your seals have gone bad.
