All codes are gone! Cleaned the MAF and replaced the PCV today.

Looks a little nasty in there. Looks like this engine didn't get treated the best by the previous owners. There are a few failure points on these motors that should also be checked, like the decoupler and the thermostat. You've already knocked out a bunch of maintenance items but its worth it to do the thermostat and the adjacent hose to make sure it keeps running. There's plenty of threads detailing the procedure. You can do it without pulling the intake, although pulling it isn't too tough to do.

Yup, serpentine belt and all attachments are on the list. As well as the coolant hoses, tstat, etc.

The S80, is coming up on those needs anyway, so gonna figure it out (with the help of the resources here).

Not gonna lie, the serpentine belt job can suck. On my XC70, working around the AC compressor was the most unpleasant part. There were fasteners on the front of it that required an open-end wrench and turning one flat at a time. There may be an easier way but that's what I ended up doing. Just tedious. Be sure to rebuild the vacuum pump at the same time. It might be worth running some Amsoil engine flush in that motor too. Some people say engine flushes can cause more harm than good but I've seen it work. The Amsoil stuff is only supossed to be run in the motor for like 20 minutes which makes more sense to me than the extended use products. I've been running my 3.2 and my 2.5 turbo on Pennzoil Platimum 5W-30 and the motors are quiet and the inside of them seems pretty clean. The stuff is hard to beat for the price.

does t look to bad on this, with the non adjusting base for the ac compressor, and being able to move it without that hassle (opinion based on Ryan’s video). Gonna do the decoupled seal and the vacuum pump as well. I did run a bottle of Amsoil flush through it for the first oil change. I used valvoline high mileage full synthetic for that oil change, but the next oil change I’m gonna flush it again and it’ll get switched to amsoil like the rest of the fleet (the s80 is spotless compared to this at 145k miles).
Got one code back for the cam position solenoid, for $50 I’ll just replace it.
Then, soon, I get to do the serpentine belt service on the 80 (belt/idler/tensioner was done at 90k miles) with the adjustable ac base. I wonder only a new style base will fit in that?

Wonder if that cam sensor code is from it being gunked up internally. Definitely doesn't look like too bad a job on these engines.
that’s my guess.

Regarding the serpentine belt, I replaced my AC compressor and then did the belt and related parts later and didn.t have an issue with the compressor positioning. I marked where it was mounted then made some measurements to a fixed point for reference. I've been running with it back together for a couple of years now with no issues.

It has begun…..

cooling system hoses and thermostat is first then serp belt and all it’s accouterments. Clean throttle body since it’s out, bleed power steering and put in a new reservoir.

replaced the Cam position sensor, codes still present but I think it has to be run a bit.

hose 39 bit me, nipple broke off in the block any pointers to get it out?

almost back together. All of the bearings on the old components were on their way out as well as the belt.
One water pump bolt went in funky and of course it’s the bottom one (hardest to get at). It’s in and tight but……I’ll pressure test it before I run it.

All back together, runs smooth and Mitch more quietly. Took it for a good 15 mile shake down run.

Well it’s registered and insured about 40 miles worth of drives. It runs good, struts next week (they’re completely shot).

ordered a VVT solenoid and 2 of the engine mounts. Those 2, the VVT solenoid and halted service will go in this weekend.

5 of 6 mounts replaced, the rear bottom mount is fun…..

6th mount is in, the mounts alone made a huge difference in the way the car feels. Struts are in, one of the old ones was so blown out that there was no resistance sliding in or out. VVT solenoid replaced and dtc is gone!😁

thanks! Trying to get it so it’s worth registering and insuring, so I can give it some proper shakedown runs.

lol, 8 bulbs were out! 1 headlight is still out.
Were you able to get this bulb fixed? I had similar issue on mine and it turned out to be that the pin was pushed in so I used a small pick to pry it back out so that it can make contact with the light bulb and that fixed the issue, perhaps you have the similar problem.

I love the read and it is very helpful as I am also bringing my XC90 to its glory. Keep posting up more I love seeing these cars deserve to be saved.

Yup all fixed, in my case it was just a burned out bulb. I think we saved this one just in time, another month in the previous owners hands I think it would’ve been at a junk yard.

my trusted Indy mechanic (best friend of 30 years) looked it over good while he was putting the struts in, for anything I may have missed and he hates euro cars (only works on mine) even said it was in decent shape.

so I will full flush the trans, do the Haldex service, in 2 weeks it goes in for new tires and an alignment. After that it needs rotors/pads/soft lines at each corner and a brake fluid flush then it’ll be gtg
