So, pardon my dumb, but I feel like this icon is new. Previously, if the fluid was low, I got a on-startup notification saying just that. This one doesn't tell me anything other than nag at my from the top of the dash display. Can someone smarter than me please clarify wtf this means?

"WTF" that means is that you pressed a small button on the face of your wiper stalk either by accident or when it began to rain, or someone else did it without your knowledge.

When you press that button again, that sign will disappear to indicate that auto wipes (rain sensoring) is off. And when the symbol is gone, this means next time it rains, you'd have to switch on the wipers yourself, or press he button again so you don't have to worry about changing the speed of your wipers in line with the extent of the rainfall.

Make damn sure that the rain sensor is off if you ever take your car to the car wash. Otherwise you will be sorry!

I wonder which mode overrides the other; service position or auto rain sensor feature? For example, set the wipers into service position, then activate the auto rain sensor... what happens when the rain sensor senses water? Would the wiper move back to normal and then operate or will it stay in the service position?

Try it and come back to tell us what happened

Per the manual under Instrument Panel. Never had to interpret it, perhaps thankfully.
