I've read several threads that said only the throttle input is different from one mode to the next in regards to the engine, but I haven't heard any body ask if the boost levels are changed. Maybe I haven't looked hard enough.

Boost remains the same; throttle response is different.

and suspension dampening is altered...

and for the hat trick on autos the trans shift behaviour is altered.

Re: (JimLill)

IPD has said that they keep the stock throttle mapping on their ECU upgrades. I don't know about other vendors.

Re: (Jayam)

Was it RICA that offers the ability to alter boost levels depending on what 4C setting you have it in? So you could put it in comfort with no boost while dropping it off at valet or something?

Would that also improve your gas mileage running around with no boost? That could be a cool side effect. Save on gas if you really don't need the power for putting around town.

I believe brother Penguin had a cool setup with RICA ( I could be wrong about the company who flashed it though) but it kept the torque limiter engaged UNLESS he put it in advanced mode, then it was balls out!!!..... I thought that was quite cool. especiallly since he rolls a 04-05 GT....

Saving money on gas in a CITY mode (no, or limited boost) is a nice prospect but I wonder how would this heavy car handle with a N/A 2.5L engine... Could we really keep up with Corollas?

Not the answer I got when I asked that question--was told throttle mapping was changed to provide more linear input through the power band. I was also told that the relative differences noticed in Advanced (or with the "S" button depressed for the GT) would be retained in the IPD tune

Re: (kenschel)

To touch on the "no boost" aspect, if I am not mistaken, an engine designed to run on a turbo performs most efficiently when the turbo is running at it's "most efficient" boost level. I think this is the main reason that people get BETTER gas mileage when they chip their car. Also, IIRC, a turbocharged car will get the best mileage when "floored" at full boost and then coasted (although correct me if I'm wrong).

That is a nifty idea though - different boost/throttle/timing/suspension settings with each mode of the 4C. It'd be a hell of a way to prolong the life of the car and increas the fun factor if you ask me, except that I'd force myself to like the crap suspension in Advanced just to mess around all day

Interesting, around here I didn't get the sense that most people got better mileage post-chipping...though that may be confounded by the fact that they are driving more aggressively, enjoying their investment to the fullest, albeit nullifying any gains in MPG.

I was just down at IPD last week. I talked with Scott, and yes, the stock throttle mapping is kept on the ECU reflash.
I might also know this personally......

Yeah it was RICA kelly, from talking to the guys over here they can set any of the modes for tuning so if someone whats the PPC tune on all 3 they can do it, never asked about limiting it in comfort mode

That's what I know too, but Kenschell seems to have heard otherwise. I suppose you have to talk to Scott or Lucky to be certain.

The IPD tune WILL deliver better mileage.
