So I just dropped off my 2019 R Design of lease and decided to buy a V60 PE - like the PHEV since we only have one car and the practicality of the wagon has been great.

Overall happy with the car, and a good fit, but a few piss off's going from a 2019 to this car that is about $15k more than what I paid for the 2019 and Volvo seems to have nickel and dimed us on a number of things that are just missing, the little things matter, Volvo forgot this...

In order of piss off;

1. Drive Mode selection - like really with the Hybrid, this is even more important to be at your fingertips
2. Rear Seat Remote drop - we used this all the time, able to drop the seats from the trunk with a touch of a button, it was a great feature.
3. Dash Graphics - Really sucks, I like the Google maps but the dash layout is boring and ugly, like a first-year UI designer did it as a side project. 2019 was much nicer
4. Rear seat Center armrest storage gone - They still have the cup holder but took out the storage.

I really want to retrofit the Drive Mode and Read Seat fold-down button but the dash the only hope, is a software update...I plan on calling Volvo about this stuff, just a piss-off when you drop so much on a newer model top of the line you expect it to have more not less.

If anyone knows if these things can be retrofitted let me know...

There is many many other things as well.
Do tell, going to put a letter together and send it off to them, see who wants to sign it here, I know it might be pissing into the wind but it will make me feel like I'm doing something...you gotta listen to the customers or you die, and Volvo is the only good mid range wagon right now.

And specifically talking about features they had in the recent models that they have taken away which feel like cost cutting...

Don't buy a car that isn't what you want, as it sits when you buy it. Waiting/hoping/wishing for "updates" that may or may not ever come, and if/when they do will need new updates, is not how to enjoy a car.
Now if something worked, then got removed/failed/buggy, THAT is different.

I do understand "not getting what you don't want" but there is something to be said about the cost of the cars going up while we get less with no obvious reason for it.

Maybe it's just me thinking like this, but if we're being honest this is an expensive car. And seeing little things like them taking away the metal pedals while facing quality issues (seemingly mostly on the infotainment which now controls a large part of the car) is a huge concern.

The part that i am personally struggling with (and I know others here have mentioned before) is that something like a Rav4 prime fully loaded has more tech options than the V60 for $35k (CAD) less. Like why? I know you can't really compare a luxury car to essentially an econobox but I would expect the Volvo to at least be close (the much debated wireless charging and apple car play being another).

The reason why I think we complain is that deep down we are all here on a car forum, pining after a very limited and imo special car, but little things like this really prevent the car from being awesome.

De-contenting is a growing trend with Volvo and I suspect other brands too. A colleague of mine here in Europe ordered a 24 XC60 with normal tech features (BLIS, ACC, F/R Cameras, Parking Sensors, etc) and he received it with none of them. He was told sorry, we don't have the chips to spare for all of those options. It is an Italian market car and I suspect Volvo is putting priority on large sales markets like the US. In the end he took the car because he received a substantial discount off of MSRP. I told him I would refuse it. For comparison, our US market 23XC90 was delivered to us here in the Netherlands with all options ordered.

Surprising. During the chip shortage we had some stuff restricted but never anything safety related.

You want an example of disappointment? The 2023 or 2024 Giulia compared to a 2020 or 2021….
The only thing really missing on the new ones versus the pre-22 cars is colored interior stitching. It was nice, but I think Alfa gets that the car is about the driving experience, and people who want that will buy an Alfa. The QV is still the best driving performance sedan you can buy for any price.

The QV is in a league of its own! A true gem!
The 2.0 Estrema and Competizione are very expensive considering what you get…

Indeed, and agree with the other point. There are some really healthy discounts out there for all the Alfas including QVs.
I'm excited to park a V60 PE alongside the QV next summer though! Whatever features it's lacking will surely outclass our crummy Q5.

All very true, a LOT of it is the whole Covid global lockdown and the ripple down effects, plus a lot of companies closed permanently. Plus everything is getting more expensive, and a nice Volvo is a very nice car, FOR THE PRICE. If you have a lot of money, sure you can get a nicer car (in many ways, trim, options, performance, etc) So Volvo is stuck in the "near Luxury" or whatever, and the only (OK, main) reason they sell is because they are less expensive than other very nice cars. IF a Mercedes Benz goes from $128,000 to $140,000, it probably won't affect sales much. But a Volvo going from say $64,000 to $70,000 makes people thing ""for 70 grand, what else can I get".
Then again, my 2019, 4 years old now stickered for $82,000, and the next year the price dropped significantly on S90 T8s...

The real difference is Volvo is a car that doesn't make a statement of 'I've arrived'. They are understated vehicles, luxury on the down-low. They don't have the ultra-high luxury variants than BMW and M-B have in particular so this may be why people have that perception. But it's more that they're subdued. It's no different than seeing how some people dress or furnish their houses for example ... some people want the flash factor to exude, others want to be seen as tailored and clean cut but not shouting.

It's actually a lot of the reason I like Volvos. If I was a car, I'd probably BE a Volvo (OK, I'm not Swedish, but still ...)

Agreed. As I'm getting older I'm putting a premium on comfort (but I don't want to shout about it). Hence Volvo's are very desirable to me.

What isn't desirable, is the feeling that corners are being cut. I don't know if this can be blamed on the pandemic or Geely ownership (maybe it's a combination of both).
