My 2016 XC90 T6 just got a CEL for P0302, which caused shaking when accelerating, running slow with a turtle sign (Engine System Reduced Performance).

I just replaced two spark plugs and the ignition coil, but the problem still exists. What else I can do? The next thing should replace or clean all 4 fuel injectors?

Because of the Extended Warranty for Excessive Oil Consumption (another issue of this SUV), it will take at least 2 weeks to a month to schedule an appointment with the local dealer. Is it safe to drive while the CEL is on?

You've got two issues you're contending with.

1. Spark Plug Recall where Plugs could Fragment and Trash Engine... So Possibility #1

To: All U.S. Volvo Retailers
Subject: Service Action S29842
Volvo Car USA LLC on behalf of Volvo Car Corporation, has decided to launch Service Action
S29842 on certain model year 2015 – 2016 XC60, S60, V60, S80, XC70 & 2016 XC90
Volvo has identified that the spark plugs may crack due to abnormal combustion.
The corrective action is replacement of the spark plugs with a new and improved design, per the
VIDA instructions located in the VIDA path below.
Information – Repair - Removal, Replacement and Installation - 2 Engine With Mountings and
Equipment, - 281 Ignition Coil, Spark Plug, Ignition Cable - Spark Plugs

2. Oil Consumption from Piston Rings. Either needing New Rings or Engine Could be scored.

Could be something else, too....But #1 could have happened if you never had plugs swapped under recall.

Thanks for the Info. Hmmm... I don't think I received the Spark Plug recall back in 2017... And I checked with Volvo USA I don't have open recalls.

Nov 2017. I believe t6s are under that recall? Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

I would get a bore scope and take out the plug and see if you see any damage in the engine. You might need to replace the engine if the rings have not been addressed. I am so sorry. 😥 It was a problem on the early years of Drive E engines.

If you want you can just swap the fuel injectors and see if the problem moves to the other cylinder. That way you are not throwing money at a potentially bad engine.
