Doesn't it depend on which vehicle? For the SPA xc90, the glove compartment had no external latch like that CMA xc40, so as you know, the glove compartment button takes up that space.

The bigger questions is why they removed the drive mode selector that already existed and left a blank space in it's place.

the bigger question is why they don't have a drive-mode button/dial on the steering wheel, where it belongs -- especially for all PHEV models

I have never seen a drive mode button on the steering wheel in any vehicle.

Just because folk like to go beyond what others write, I have to point out that I wrote "I've never SEEN" and not "there are no vehicles with that feature. " I never claimed that no cars had controls like that. You're both refuting an argument I never made.

I test drove just about every vehicle in this class and I don't recall a single vehicle with the drive mode on the wheel. It's not a frequent design choice when mapping out an interior because that real estate is typical reserved for actions (like changing media) that the driver will need multiple times a trip. You also typically want most tasks on the wheel to be muscle memory rather than something more complex (like drive mode) .

The spot where volvo had it before the refresh was perfectly sensible. I have no idea why they moved it but I'm going to guess it was all about $

Think we could all agree that drive mode button/wheel where it was was good choice. Million times better than where it is now, I.e nowhere :)

Had it been on a steering wheel Wed be fine too. Or if one could control it from the media controls one could imagine that easily... Anything is better than what we have now. Touch screen (no lookin on the road) settings driving mode and then correct button. Poor

Well, there was this online, not sure if it ever was a reality or not. I tried to check, but Volvo's site is about as stable as their in car OS :sneaky:
