You may have watched the volvo safety video of a oblivious driver ,gazing at the moon and a moose is hiding behind a tree down the road,of course the car detects it and all ends happily, you can see where this is going.
So if they can program it for a moose, errant cyclists, headphone wearing pedestrians that have less traffic sense than a aussie sheep, WHY cant they make a token effort to do a kangaroo, its not like there is a shortage of them here (1 less now). I mean a kangaroo is a pretty definable shape.
So the missus is on the way to work, doing around 60kph in 60 zone, roo bounds out and bang. No warning systems went off just fyi.
Result bottom grille (below main grille) broken, do you rekon it comes out from the front or do i have to pull the front bumper off?, advice appreciated,or parts diagram 23 xc60

If you notice the demonstrations, the system is looking for things on the road or slowly walking into the road, not things jumping out into the road. Death by jumping in front of a Volvo is still a very valid option for woodland critters.

On the cross traffic alert, my farm geese have triggered that system.

No system will be able to warn you if an animal jumps onto the road in front of you
If the kangaroo was far enough that the system could register it, then the driver could also spot it and reduce his speed in time.

It's something else when it comes to night driving conditions, Volvo doesn't have that system yet, Audi offers such a system as an option since 2018 ( Night vision assist )

From 2015 only in top models and from 2018 in all other models

I Decry that's a Person in a Bear Outfit! LOL. Poor Bear.

Well i am glad we have cleared up what a roo looks like and does, ie looks like a roo and hops.We get heaps on the sides of roads at dusk (urban sprawl is moving them out), and usually you can see them ,though they blend in well with surroundings. We have zero chance of hitting a bear or a partying moose in australia (unless in a costume in which case go for it).At least volvo could add it, maybe under speed sign recognition? (mild sarcasm)
Anyway any info on lower grille appreciated

I love this snippet "Death by jumping in front of a Volvo is still a very valid option", could you picture that on a volvo tv ad? 🤣, also our famous airline "the flying kangaroo"

I can hear Steve Irwin now. SPLAT....Crikey that roo was a feisty one.

It just occurred to me..... it recognises turtles, as mine often comes up with a "turtle", cmon volvo i want my roo recognition system (RRS). P.s i havent hit any turtles because the car spots them and slows my car right down to give the turtle a timely means of extrication or conversly hurling it self at my Lower Front Grille

Bumper cover needs to come off.

Given that city safety is suppose to stop and brake for humans, shouldn't Volvo be able to utilize the same technology to account for a two legged object moving in a vertical manner?

I am hoping that i can remove the underbelly cover and maybe get the lower grille out,i really dont want to take the whole bumper off on a new car.
I have noticed in the new system that it has not come up with any sort of alerts , also unlike the sensus on our 21 car, there is no provision in AAOS for stored codes/faults.
I did go to the dealer (honestly) and asked the senior manager the next time he goes on a "volvo junket" to ask the powers to be for my RRS ,and ask them why we have a car in australia that recognises moose (whatever you call them over there!)
