I upgraded from a 2019 T6 to a 22.5 T8 this fall. Have finally had the chance to go on some longer highway drives and the T8 power is simply amazing!
First realized it when we had pulled over to the side (one kid spilt her juice or something!) When time came to get going again, I slowly pulled pulled parallel to the right lane - waiting for a gap - and floored it when I saw one.
And holy sh*t. I was used to T6 power level - which was quite docile. This was something else. With the electric motor kicking in - the car literally shot forward and it was borderline scary (with a car this big, tall and with a soft suspension). I was almost driving into the back of the truck ahead in no time. Note that even if the battery range shows 0, the car keeps some battery juice in reserve for such maneuvers.
When trying to pass other cars, the slightest blip brings out a surge in power without any perceptible downshifting - once again, due to the electric motor. Of course, at low speeds on full electric, the torque is once again far in excess of what the gas engine produces.
Its a tricky, complicated propulsion system and all but overall, it makes for a far superior car. The electric motor completely negates the XC90's Achille's heel - its underpowered, strained and coarse ICE (which has been smoothened out in the 2022.5 from what it was in the 2019 but not quite enough).
