Hey all. So fuel pump was backyard fixed with marine weld by previous owner but I think there’s a leak somewhere else? Have this code and smells like fuel at rear passenger wheel well. Any tips on where to check? / what it might be?

checked here but mine actually smells like fuel

What year/model is the car. Up to 2004 the hard plastic fuel evap line has a rubber hose connector at the right rear subframe bolt area, in behind the right front tire. This short rubber will dry out and crack. At the rear axle area is the square charcoal canister. The rubber "J" hose connected to the canister will crack on the bend. It is not easy to spot both of these hoses leaking. Both of these evap lines being cracked or broken will not cause a fuel smell. Look in under the front area of the right rear tire and see if the fuel tank corner is damp will leaking fuel. Do you have the plastic or metal fuel tank? The fuel pump top may be leaking fuel. The fuel smell and evap codes may be unrelated. You could have 2 separate problems.

Its a 2004 s60R i think its metal but im not sure. :( really hope its not the fuel tank... that would be expensive and crappy. ill check after work if i can find a diagram. i dont smell fuel much in the car unless i open the windows. but strongly smell fuel at the rear passenger wheel well. havent noticed any leaks under the car and mpg has been normal.

Right rear wheel is also where your fuel filter is. Also check the seal on the inside of your filler cap as these can crack too.
if the filler cap is damaged would i smell fuel that strongly from the outside? previous owner said he replaced it but at this point idk. i thought the fuel filter was on the left side by the pvac or whatever its called? didnt realize a fuel filter could cause that much stank.

I recently dealt with the same code/symptoms in my 06 V70r.

In my case, there was a very small crack in the metal evap line which elbows off of the metal fuel filler pipe. The included pictures show the location. I sealed the pipe using a combination of metal foil tape, flex tape, and Gorilla brand liquid rubber sealant. I ended up making a bit of a mess with the sealant due to the tight area but this repair was 3 months ago and has held up since.

Seems like these cars are getting to the age where annyoing small cracks are something to be prepared for. 3 nights ago i discovered i was losing coolant and it turns out i had a TINY crack in radiator. Sealed that with JB weld and it is holding fine.

Changing my gas cap gasket seems to have resolved the fuel smell from the passenger wheel well. Previous one was super thin. Still have the code for Evap leak tho. And smells like gas a little in general from the exhaust. But one thing resolved easily at least.
