Inquired with the two highest-rated tint shops in town about tinting our pano roof. First said I would have to sign a liability waiver bc alcantara headliner could be easily stained from all the water used. Other than that (and a 2 month wait) they didn’t see to have a problem with it.

Second shop flat out said they didn’t recommend tinting bc it is likely that the sunroof would crack eventually with our high temps. Again they will do it if I sign a liability waiver in case the sunroof cracks, but he really recommended against it. Both of these shops have been around a while and have a great local reputation, and excellent online reviews.

Did some google research and seems that most consider the cracking sunroof after tint to be a myth. What do you guys say? One person in my “baby getting cooked” thread seems to have tinted their sunroof without issue. After having the sunroof shatter in the wife’s previous Mazda CX-5 (with no tint), we’re a bit wary of glass showers. We even tinted the warranty replacement glass to avoid such a problem in the future, but that was a regular moonroof, not panoramic.

If you're just looking for shade, an alternate option is to keep a cargo box on the roof. Being substantially cooler in sunny Florida was a surprise side-effect that had me leave the box on year round.

Not everyone's cup of tea but I've come to really like it.

That combo of the bronze, 22’s, rugged lux kit, and roof box looks fantastic! If it weren’t for the mileage penalty and the fact that my wife uses sunroof a fair amount, a roof box would be something to consider. Haven’t needed more storage (yet) since buying a Thule hitch-mounted cargo box for trips

I too have yet to see anyone with a cracked Volvo sunroof from tint, so leaning towards getting it done. Problem is the good tint shops in town are backed up such that they wouldn’t be able to install for at least a few weeks when temps will likely drop. It’s been over 110 degrees last few days (hit 117 yesterday)…brutal

I've had my Subaru Ascent ceramic tinted for 4 years and no issues. Did the same with my previous cars and never an issue, albeit those were regular size sunroofs.

Even with the ceramic tints on my s60 recharge, I'm learning that even that's not enough with the heat wave on the west coast. I've never experienced this before - thanks, thin layered sheer cover! Then again, I can only imagine how much worse it'd be if I didn't get it tinted. Highly recommend it!

Just fyi, tinting yourself isn't so bad. Especially on the sunroof. You can get a big piece off of ebay for not much. I'd get something not very dark, but that blocks a lot of UV. I regret going with a 35% on mine. I mostly just wanted heat savings, not a darker interior.

It's possible to remove the panorama windows. Had mine changed to to crack and it took the dealer maybe an hour to change the rear panorama window.

Also I think the alcantara headliner is itself quite easy to remove and maybe it could be wrapped in plastic.

looks great! I have the same box on my black recharge. One tip… open the rear boot to the full height and slide the box back. This box was actually designed for an xc90, by volvo, and the front of the box should actually line up with the top/start of the windshield And finish at the rear of the boot joint. Perfect length. Only for aesthetics 👍👍
