I went to go help my dad jump-start his car today, popped my hood and realized... I have no idea how to access the battery.

The battery cover is blocked by what I figure to be an OEM strut brace. Looking under the plastic covers, it seems like it was mounted using the correct mounting bolts, but I still didn't seem to have the clearance necessary to remove the cover.

So... probably a stupid question, but is there a secret as to how to remove the battery cover when the strut brace is installed? Or should I just keep a wrench with my jumper cables and pop the brace off whenever I need to jump someone.

You can remove the battery cover while the strut brace is installed, but to connect jump wires there's no need to do so. Simply connect the wire to the battery positive terminal, and then remove the strut tower cover, and you'll find the main ground there. Connect the negative wire to the largest bolt and that's it. That's connected directly to the battery.
