I'd reply that you're thankful they are listening and you would be happy to have your concerns escalated, but what would make you happy overall is the rectification of the audio system to the functionality you had at the time of purchase.

Reply back from Volvo UK. Not quite sure how to interpret this:

“Hi *

Thank you for your email. I am sorry that this has been removed from the car with the recent upgrade.

The audio controls are no longer in the system, however, this is something on the list of discussion points with our digital colleagues in Sweden, but if and when they will return has yet to be decided. I would be more than happy to escalate this with our technical department who can provide the feedback to the colleagues in Sweden.

Could you please confirm if you would be happy with the above?

Thank you in advance.

Volvo Digital Support Team”

What do you guys reckon?

Eh, one of Volvo's strengths is they are small enough to be responsive. It took a year of being told it couldn't be done but we no longer have care key as the only option with new cars.

I kinda think this as well.

I guess it’s all about the state of how everything is moving towards – being very fragile, with little certainty anymore and an increasingly untrusting customer/corporation relationship.

Not great…

Yup, escalate it. It's the most anyone can do presently apart from talking directly to the development team in charge of the change.

I would get a full refund. You ordered product A, they didn’t deliver product A. Therefore you have the right to refuse a “less than” product. Then go to used market and buy what you want. OR you can choose to accept your “less than” vehicle.

It's software licensing agreements... you're not going to get a refund of them. They aren't legally obligated to do so. Going down such rabbit holes will only make you look like a Karen.

I know it's not to everyone's liking, myself included, but modern luxury cars (and most modern cars in general) are not simply automobiles, they're also a computer. And just like with other software, they are going to be protected from different changes that are made. The licenses are full of "as is" phrases and that doesn't mean they will continue to be as is when received.. but rather it doesn't have to work. They have protection clauses for loss of functionality. The best thing to do is give reason for them to change, such as the OP is doing and reaching out to Volvo to express dissatisfaction with their lazy code writing.

You ordered product A and they delivered a functional product A to you
Nowhere in the specifications when you ordered and paid for the product A does not written :
Sound system with settings balance & fader controls

You have no basis for seeking a refund and you have even less chance of suing

You get a functional car with an audio system that works

Let’s see, I think Volvo should eliminate these features as well, delay wipers, vanity mirror lights, any floor mats at all, heck let’s take off roof rails as well. Volvo can do that because those weren’t “specified”? BS!

The ONLY way a car brand will change is if the word gets out and their sales plummet. Volvo is already having a tough time with the Sensus not being intuitive, coarse engines with lackluster economy, flinty ride quality. Hey maybe instead of a sound system they should offer a radio delete option, kinda like a sixties pickup truck?

All those things are specified though.... and you can still get radio delete on pick up trucks.

FYI: floor mats are somewhere standard equipment and somewhere additional

This is a list of standard equipment, of course it varies depending on the market, as you can see everything is listed
:rolleyes:Please write another time with arguments and not your personal opinion

I mean, the complaint is a valid one. But I think it's important to approach it from a realistic perspective. Making hyperbole about them taking physical parts out of the car after you buy it is just silly. We're dealing in software licenses here. Someone in charge of the system didn't think it was important, or found it was conflicting with someone else, so it was removed.

Anyways, as others already said - the right way is to complain about that and if enough do, maybe the feature will be added again. I will for sure, when mine won't have this feature.

I guess all I can do is wait Volvo’s progress update.

Speaking with one of my very savvy IT software licencing consultants at work today, he made me aware of some worrying discussions going on within the car industry related to software subscription billing models.

He’s going to try and find the article; it mentioned ideas like a car owner being able to purchase a subscription software licence to switch on the cars rear A/C vents based on an annual renewal period. You can begin to only imagine what car ownership will be like in the near future, with each and every software/electrical, feature/component, only being able to be accessed or used if you purchase its corresponding software subscription licence!
