I ended up pulling the trigger and have had it installed for several months now. overall it works well but the lack of touchscreen shows at times. currently there is no way to answer calls, which is the biggest issue. I have a wear os watch so I can answer from there and the audio picks up on the car, but you can't answer from the car or phone. support was initially good, and they say they're working on an update to address it, but that has been several months and it usually takes several emails to get a reply.

the other issue is that the mic sucks. there's supposedly a way to use the oem mic but it sounds like you need to spice wires into the harness and I wasn't going to mess with that. there was a big language barrier in trying to get that request through and I'm not even sure the half-assed instructions they sent were correct.

Have you had any issues with updating the car's software through the dealers as of result of the retrofit? I am considering this as well after I take delivery of my car but not sure if I will have trouble with dealer support in the future (or even with my warranty) if somehow this voids or interfere with manufacturer updates and stuff.

i havent had to take it in. im no expert on this, but the box is basically an add-on and unless they went looking for it i wouldnt think the dealer would even know it was there. i dont see a way that it would interfere with an upgrade.

overall i still like the box, but ive yet to get any software upgrade to address the issues im having. it also seems to be resetting a lot more lately, though im running android 12 beta so that may be partially to blame because my phone resets at times too

Hi. There is no way to use OEM microphone? When i look on their aliexpress website 35.1US $ 10% OFF|Wireless CarPlay Android Auto Retrofit Box for Volvo iSmart Auto V40 XC70 XC60 S60 V60 V70 Mirroring Link SIRI OEM Microphone|Keyless Start System| - AliExpress it seems that they support it, but only on CarPlay?

What happens when you change climate temperature on the knobs?

The OEM mic works with CarPlay. I would email them to makes sure it works with Android but I guess it would works there as well.

When you turn the climate knobs, the temperature changes but there is no way to tell what the number changed to if you are in CarPlay/AA mode. If you want to see it then you have to hold Exit for 3 seconds to flip back to the OEM UI then hold Exit for 3 seconds to flip back over to CarPlay. FYI, that's how you flip back and forth between the two systems.

Bump. Few questions for you if you don't mind!

Does it work in wired mode?
When wireless, does it connect automatically?
Do you have to hold the exit button to switch over to carplay every time you start the car, or will it do so automatically?

Thanks!

Yes, when it works :) I just installed the latest update from the seller yesterday so haven't had the chance to test it out.
Carplay starts automatically. You can also turn this off if you prefer to do it manually.

For those with the Kremer Sino unit, there was an update last month and it seems to make the wireless connection a lot more reliable now. You'll have to contact the seller for them to email you the files. I can also send it if needed.

Another one for those with the Kremer Sino unit...

I've tried installing my unit twice now and got an error on the instrument cluster both times. I'd follow the instructions/videos to the letter but when everything was fitted back together and I started the car, the instrument cluster would instantly give the error "BLIS and CTA Service required" and the center display is just dead, no backlight or anything.

Please, I'm open to any and all advice, suggestions, condescension, directions, Black magic, etc. as long as it gets this **** working haha

Hi did you get this sorted? I’ve just recently installed mine & working great, happy to try help

I finally received my unit, and have been using it for a few days. It has its quirks and some things about it that are cumbersome. I'll probably make a youtube video reviewing it in a few weeks as there are absolutely none available online for some reason.
Good to hear - I’m in a similar boat, been using it for about a week now, overall I’m happy - vast improvement over before & after. As you say a few things to familiarise how to best use. If anything really bothering you perhaps share it - I or others may have found work around etc.

Sure thing, here goes:

  • DIsplay brightness is non adjustable, and adjusting it is very cumbersome and tedious. Overall I found a setting I'm generally happy with, but the screen is still a bit too bright at night, and too dark during the day.
  • Pressing the EXIT button on the dash does not return me to the Kresimino interface, however holding EXIT on the steering wheel does. Not sure why since they both should work.
  • There is no way to adjust the microphone settings for when speaking on the phone via carplay. This results in an echo for whoever I'm talking to hearing themselves unless the volume is extremely low. This does not happen through the Volvo bluetooth so clearly its a software issue.
  • Siri makes the sound effect when summoned, but it does not make the beep afterwards to acknowledge its stopped listening.
  • The center channel thumps significantly when turning the car on.
  • Rotary dial on the steering wheel works much slower than the one on the dash.
  • The inputs are sometimes delayed when trying to change tracks.
That's all that comes to mind on the spot. If I think of any more when driving I'll update.

Not yet, I've been in contact with Michael from Kremersino and he had me reinstall the unit and send videos, then had me disassemble the unit and send him pictures, and in response he sent a chip to replace on one of the PCBs (I'll have to de-solder the old one). Unfortunately the tracking on the replacement chip has been stuck on "flight departed" for about three weeks now though.

That’s not great, unless I’m misunderstanding things they should send an exchange board (if it’s the one that’s goes inside the Display, or the only other is the CarPlay box itself - was it one of those? Post with the pandemic & now festive season is terribly slow. Sounds like you have a plan to resolve though - yell out if you get stuck, we can only try help

I'm in a 2017 V60 so I don't think I need the in-display board version, mines just the self-contained box. But I'm not disparaging Kremersino, Michael gave me the option of sending my unit back and waiting for a replacement, or he could ship the replacement chip and I could try swapping it myself (or someone at my workplace whose job is 90% soldering lol) and hopefully get it working sooner. I chose the latter because I like a challenge and also I hate myself

Fair enough it was your choice I probably would have done so too (being that way inclined and electronics trained). Good luck with it
