I just picked up my XC60 T8 yesterday and of course realized that the orange key doesn't really work for anything but to start the car (only realized this once I got home). I was furious this morning and spoke to the dealer and then called Volvo Customer Service (spoke to Alexis who was absolutely awesome!!!). There's a new software update that allows the orange key to be used as a normal master key (so just like the black one!). Getting the update tomorrow and then all is well in Volvo land again. (I hope!).

This is accurate, I received my XC60 back in May and got the single black key and orange care key. I thought I would be ok with it but ended up wanting the second black key because I couldn’t get a second profile to save. When I went in to inquire about a new key they told me there is a new update to allow the orange key to function like a normal one.

Long story short my wife now has an orange key that can be edited and linked/saved to profile 2. Bonus is she likes the orange color.

Dang I just bought a new key to replace that stupid orange one... :(

I will be contacting my dealer to see about a refund on that key...

Did they charge you for the update?

My lovely dealer claims I didn't buy a key from them and that I have to contact Volvo wtf?!!! And they said they know nothing about an update for the orange keys... sigh.

Spoke with Volvo and customer service rep confirmed that a fix is available for the orange key!

That's not exactly helpful. Do I need to update the key or is it an update through Sensus which could be OTA?
How is that not helpful? Programing of keys is NEVER over the air, simple as that. A key must be programed in person at a dealer. The key has to be reprogramed, so no...it's not an OTA Sensus update. Think of the security risk that would pose.

I had asked my service team to look at this yesterday as they didn't know about it either, haven't heard back. I suspect, they made some updates to the profile that where some of the concerns... If it's a completely "free" key then you should be able to be in the care key profile and switch to another profile, as well as not force the key key to be paired to any profile. Can someone how has had this done confirm that functionality?

As for a refund for a purchased key, that is something you would have to take up with Volvo. The dealer sold you a key to fix Volvos issue. Dealers should not be the ones losing here, that's no more morally right than you having to have bought the key in the first place. IMO Volvo is heading towards some rocky roads with dealerships. I just did training that to fix their problem with cars needing updated before delivery they now expect sales folks to be able to do the CPS install. Nothing says luxury car experience than having sales folks under the hood before delivery, and gosh forbid if the software fails and now we're taking the back of your car apart in front of you.

(Assuming you mean PDS install) Really? They just changed the PDS op code to split it into two op codes to make sure the PDS software is done before delivery. Now they want sales to do it? How is that supposed to work?

Their PDS process is a bit lacking as-is. They want maps loaded so a customer driving the car before sale can test the navigation. Okay, I get that. But if the car sits on the lot, there's a good chance it will need the maps updated when sold. But they don't want to pay us to do the maps twice. Maybe have the techs do the PDS and then have sales do the maps?

See, I can't even get the acronym right.

The instructions have us pulling up a cart, plugging in the battery, hooking up a dongle to the OBD-II (or using WIFI) and then downloading the latest software, which in the video showed a 54m download time.

It just got published this week I think (I try to stay on top of the training).

Wow, seems unnecessary. Is this in all cases? Or just for something like a spot delivery when service may not be open?
It's for spot at this time. Volvo recognizes some customers what to take a car home the day they bought it (though I'll admit I like the scheduled delivery far better, i think it goes faster and saves the customer more time... and saved me the sitting around entertaining time while waiting for the car to get washed etc.

But whatever you're getting paid to the a PDS... I'm guessing I won't see it in my pocket. I'd also guess this is just until the OTA gets going for the newer cars.

Alright, spot delivery when service isn't open makes sense I guess.

Or the dealer can make their own process to facilitate spot deliveries when service is open.

Our sales guys let service know immediately when there is a spot delivery and we get it back right away. We can get it going while they are doing the paperwork. If sales explains to the customer they want to make sure it leaves with the most current software, most people don't have a problem if it takes a little bit more time.
