I figured I'd post what I did in case it's helpful to others. It all started when we bought our 2011 C30 and it did have automatic heated seats. Our 08 had manual seats and no heating, and we really liked those seats in the 2011. So I spent a bit of time in the forums and figured I needed:
  • A set of automatic, heated front seats from a C30 or C70
  • A CCM with the heated seats buttons, or at least the buttons
  • Programming via VDASH
Somehow our local UPull&Pay had an influx of C70s, S40s and V50s. I pulled the first set of seats from a 2012 C70 only to find that the passenger seat's heating element was damaged. It looked like someone took a blade to the leather (a shame because it was in excellent condition) and got through to the foam and damaged the rest of seat. Back I went and grabbed the passenger seat from a 2007 C70. The leather was really beat up but the rest of the seat and the heating element was fine. By the way it was a bit of a pain trying to reach those rear bolts on seats that don't move.

I now took my time swapping the leather covers/skins from my manual seats to the automatic ones I just got from the C70s. It's a bit tedious going through all the rings and then using twisty ties to secure the skins back. Make sure you have a few hours and take your time, it's not the funnest thing to do and it requires a little more patience than I really have. So I took several breaks during the process. If you do go from manual seat skins, you will find that you will need to cut a hole in your skins by the head rest to insert the back & forth buttons. Also, you will have a hole of about 1 ½ inch diameter where one of the manual adjustments used to be. This hole will be at the bottom of the back assembly to the outside, so facing the door. I bought this set from Amazon (50 Piece Flush Mount Black Hole Plug Assortment for Auto Body and Sheet Metal - - Amazon.com) and covered the holes (glued) after I found one the right size. It's not perfect but I don't notice the holes now.

As has been document before, all the wiring is there, so now that the skins have been swapped the new seats are in. Power adjustments and memory work fine, but no heating yet. I should also note that the plastic covers for the seat rails no longer fit, nor do the ones from the C70, so I will need to make some changes (cut the plastic as it's too large now) if I want to put these back.

At this stage I need the CCM and the programming. The first thing I did was put in a CCM that had the heated seats buttons already there, it came from the 2007 C70 if I remember correctly. However, it did have dual climate zones, which my 08 C30 is not equipped for, and the "auto" button for the A/C. After getting VDASH programming ($109 way less than going through Volvo, VIDA, etc.) the heated seats were working great, but the A/C was not engaging anymore. Also, pressing the "auto" button would change which vents were activated and obviously wasn't working. A few things were now off.

So next I took the heated seats buttons and moved them from the C70 CCM I had just put in, to my old CCM. A/C comes back, everything is working as expected, but while the heated seats lights come on there's no heat. Sounds like there's more to the CCM than just the buttons. Tried to disable/enable the heated seats function via VDASH and no change. After some reading, my guess was that I need to find a CCM that matched my 08 C30 CCM in terms of buttons, etc. but that also included the heated seats buttons already installed. Fortunately, back at the yard a 07 V50 had just that. Plugged in the CCM from the V50 and the A/C is working and so are the heated seats.

Ok, so long winded post to say that this can be done. The seats were $40 a piece, the CCM $20, programming $109 and if you need to cover the holes from a manual seat add $10 and glue. So a little over $200 and some patience. I think the main hurdle was the CCM and buttons. If you decide to do this, find a CCM that has the same buttons/features as yours but with the heated seats buttons. Adding the buttons, while looking like it's working (lights), did not work for me.

I now have quite a few leftover parts from this project as I spent a little more with my trial and errors (mostly CCMs and seat parts), so PM me if that's something you can use or if you have questions while I still remember. I'll probably start listing these parts on eBay next.

Very cool, I'm always about the OEM plus mods on these cars. How did you find the programming experience with. VDASH? Did you use a clone DICE to do it or did you use the VDASH tool they sell? I just went through programming my car for fog lights using an actual VIDA subscription, took a lot of time and money and research.

Also, as someone with the T-Tec (the fake vinyl and cloth seats) seats that ARE heated, how can I know if they're working or not? I tried them in winter but I felt no difference to me, unlike the leather heated seats in a family member's C70.

I have the chinese DICE clone and it worked fine. After a few minutes of coming to grips with the VDASH interface, and making sure I didn't royally screw something up by pressing the wrong button (having worked in IT I can be a bit paranoid about this stuff), the process was straight forward. If you end up going that route let me know and I can pull up the VDASH interface again and walk you through the options. When it's time to pay for the feature (heated seats) it will tell you that you don't have enough credits and there will be a redirect option to Paypal or to enter your CC. The only thing that I didn't expect, based on all I had read, was that it quickly decrypted my car (less than a minute). So either the previous owner had used VDASH and the car was already in their database or the process is now a lot faster than anything I've read in the forums.

I have used VIDA in the past for software updates and I think VDASH is actually easier to use, but it also only turns features on and off, so no software updates that I could see and the troubleshooting info for codes is basic (while VIDA can have a lot of details). Also, VDASH has some tuning options, but I don't have any of the mods for that anyway. And the prices seem to be a lot less than going the VIDA route.

As for whether the seats are working or not, it's pretty obvious to me in our car, even if it isn't cold outside. I think both in VIDA and VDASH there's an option to set the temp range for the heated elements. If you're not feeling any heat, it may be worth a shot to load up VDASH and check what it sees, both in terms of whether heated seats are enabled and what the temp range is set at.

BTW, fog lights is next, I just need the covers with the holes (I have lights and the switch) and I think it's either $60 or $100 to turn it on in VDASH.

Okay, I have an older VIDA 2014D setup for diagnostics, will VDASH install and function alongside it? I know VIDA can be very picky. Also in IT, so this is why I ask before I try something and end up having to reimage my diagnosis laptop.

If I get it working, I'll take you up on that offer to show me around the program.

On my laptop I have VDASH and the most recent VIDA which I used for a software update a few months back. VDASH ran fine and I haven't used the latest VIDA since. I also have VIDA 2014D that I run from a virtual machine, and it's been working fine since VDASH was installed.

I'll have to give it a try. Just so you know, fog lights on originally non-fog cars does require a software install. I had to do mine through VIDA using a legitimate 3-day subscription as previously mentioned, then purchase the $30 software install for just the fog light function.

Back to your T-Tec heated seats, did the car come with them and they don't seem to be working or did you retrofit the heated seats? If the latter then my experience has been that I needed the programming (VDASH) and a CCM with the heated seats buttons already there that matched what my 08 came equipped with (so no dual zones in my case).

The car came with them. The next time I take a ride, I'll try them, but I don't ever remember them actually working. Perhaps its a fuse or something. How would I check their temperature in VDASH?

Also, when I have VDASH connected and I try to change the mileage service interval, a blank page comes up in the program and nothing happens. Am I missing something here?

I haven't tried the mileage service interval. For the temp settings, connect to your car by clicking on the VIN no. button, then Car Configuration (top right button) -> Advanced settings -> Seats -> Seat heating, and you should see what's in the image below:

So when I hookup my car to VDASH, I can't go into the car configuration tab as it says my car needs to be "read". Is this the $279 unlock that they are asking for?

Maybe someone else can pipe in. When I connected my car I wasn't prompted to unlock it or to pay $279. It's possible the previous owner had already done so, but I don't think it's likely (older lady). Anyway, I think in 2014 VIDA there's also a way to check the seat temperature, I'll see if I can get some screen captures in a little bit and post them here.

These screen captures below are how VDASH is functioning for me (I sanitized the screen captures):

Step 1 - Connect to their server and check for updates (it did install an update just now)

121800

Step 2 - Login to my account, though it says to remember my login it does require to re-enter your password every time.

121801

Step 3 - Once logged in it pulls up the info about the vehicle, next I click on the CONNECT button with the VIN number

121802

Step 4 - This is the next screen and I don't have the lock on the CAR CONFIGURATION.

121803

The only difference I'm seeing from your screen capture is that perhaps you are not logged in. Did you create a basic/free (can't remember what it's called) account on their website?

I did make a free account and try to log in. I will try to do it through VIDA and see if it works for me later tonight. Thank you for posting the screenshots, those are helpful.

I was able to replicate the issue that you run into when I ran VDASH on our 2011 C30. I don't know if it's a year difference (08 vs. 11) or if the 08 had been decoded by the previous owner or a shop. That's the only other guess I have, perhaps others that have used VDASH with their C30 can pitch in.

Okay, I was able to use VIDA to setup the seats to be 2 steps hotter than previously. Also found out my DIM is not user defined, which stinks for me. No idea if I can change that in the future using VDASH or if I will have to unlock the vehicle somehow. Thanks for the help so far!
