I find the driver seat is pretty damn uncomfortable for long drives. I don't have the seat extensions that I believe some of the XC's come with. I had a 2018 XC60 loaner and the driver seat was super comfortable. Has anyone replaced their driver seat with another from the XC line?

My XC40 RD has the manual thigh extension. I find the seats very comfortable for both long and short drives.
I like the seat, but the headrest is at too much of a forward angle for long-term comfort. I tried adjusting it up a notch and that helped a bit but I would still like to have a angled a little bit back to have it straight up and down from the seat back

I found I was using a much more upright position for the seatback in the XC40 compared to the C70 and our other Volvos. I adjusted so that there is a slight "backward" angle to the seatback(so my upper-middle back is the last thing to touch the back of the seat(I've never had my shoulders touching the seat, except when stretching.
With that slight backward tilt, the head restraint is no longer an issue as it is an inch or so away from my head now.

NO thigh extension for our XC40 and no long trips so far; but I don't have a problem with the seat "depth" or length.

Based on what I've heard about the differences between the XC40 seats and the others in the Volvo line, I don't expect it would be an easy swap as the OP asked.

Thanks Coach Rick. I'll have to try that. Right now my upper shoulders are not touching. My butt and my head or touching, but in between in the concave seat section nothing is touching. If I tilt the seat back a little more I think I'll have to adjust the steering wheel closer since my legs are at a comfortable position. I have a bad knee and can't have my leg up too much.

Have you inflated and adjusted the lumbar support? Great help for positioning on the seat.
I adjusted it as much as I could. Not much really seemed to happen. I pressed the little button up to try to get the support higher and I pressed the button forward to try to get it inflated more. I ended up buying a lumbar cushion and placing it behind my butt. And I have another cushion behind my shoulder blades.

I think you're right CoachRick on it not being an easy swap. I'm pretty sure the XC40 seats are narrower than the 60 and 90. But maybe I could replace it with the XC40 seats with the extension. I know the early 2019 models came with that as someone in this thread mentioned they had it. I'll reach out to my dealer and ask about the cost. If too costly, I'm likely to live with it for a few more years and then trade my 40 in for a 60.

I hate that you don't like the 40 seat. It's not as plush as our C70(after 7 years!); but I've found it comfy enough(Coming from a FIAT 500L with really firm seats).
Good chance I'll drive 1100 miles to our NC mountain house in the next few weeks; so I'll give the seat a real test!

It's not like the "good old days" of our '82 Audi GT or '91 Miata with seats that could be unbolted and removed in a matter of minutes!!

I've also noticed very little "adjustment" when playing with the lumbar support toggle.(Our FIAT L seat felt like it had a lumbar cushion when adjusted).
My lats and spine erectors have been "pronounced" since Junior High; so those are the last muscles to touch the seat usually. I don't try to touch the seat with my shoulder blades normally. I'll agree, it would be nice to have the head restraint a bit farther back(maybe an inch); but all in all, I like the seat.

It's funny to me how my 24 year old 850R is the most comfortable of all my vehicles. Even after so many years. The lumbar support in the 850 is adjusted by hand and much more substantial onece fully inflated and has remained so

Unfortunately I have lost a lot of muscle mass with age. So lats an erector spinae are very thin on my back. So in the XC 40 I do need that extra cushion between my shoulder blades. There seems to be a lot more padding in the 850, and also the headrest is more upright.

Overall I like the seat also. One of the reasons I chose the Redesign was that seat was the extender. I would have liked a cool ventilated seats, but I couldn't find that with the options that I wanted. And I think once I've had the car for a longer period of time and made some additional adjustments and just gotten used to it, I will find it more comfortable. I remember it took me several weeks with the 850 to get the seat where I wanted.
