2013 S60 T6 R-Design
I live in South Florida where it is regularly 90-100f other than maybe 2 months out of the year if we get lucky. What would be the best oil for me to use here? I'm a pretty spirited driver and regularly put 100 to 200 miles on my car every 2 days. Just wondering if it would be better for me to put a higher weighted oil this time. Thanks for ya time 😊

From the 2013 S60 owner's manual at http://esd.volvocars.com/local/us/2013-Volvo-S60-Owners-Manual.pdf

Oil specifications
Engine oil must meet the minimum
ACEA A5/B5. Lower quality oils may not offer
the same fuel economy, engine performance,
or engine protection.
Oil additives must not be used.
Oil viscosity
Incorrect viscosity oil can shorten engine life
under normal use. SAE 5W-30 will provide
good fuel economy and engine protection. See
the viscosity chart.
Viscosity chart
Extreme engine operation
SAE 0W-30 oil meeting ACEA A5/B5 requirements
is recommended for driving in areas with
sustained low temperatures.

Use the 5W-30. Be sure it's ACEA A5/B5. Following the manufacturer's requirements is the only thing that can help you to prevent engine problems or help you in the event they occur. Change the oil a little more frequently if you drive spiritedly. I use Mobil 1 in my wife's 2013 S60. mainly because I think that whatever makes Castrol red is left behind in the engine. Time will tell.

Had a look at the site, and frankly don't see why I should be impressed, other than they claim to be the original synthetic. I'll listen, though.
I had a lot of experience with a very large oil company that would not stand behind a lot of Volvo camshafts when it was proven that their oil was improperly formulated, and another company that did stand behind their product (Quaker State) when their product was improperly blended. I won't name the former company, because their business practices may include retaliatory actions, but when it comes to critical fluids, I will stand in a large crowd against a deep pocket company. A lot of us use Mobil 1, and many use other products, like Amsoil or Castrol. I hope we never have to rely on any of these companies to do the right thing, but when pushin' turns to shovin', I hope there are enough of us standing together to benefit from corporate responsibility. If, in this day and age it isn't an oxymoron
Keep your receipts and service records up to date, People!

Please don't introduce logic and reason here. This thread and every other one like it deserves to live for at least 7 or 8 pages.
Yeah, we needed this. We're still down to only two oil debates on the front page ;)

Curses, we've woken up the forum Satire Squad, run for it before we get demeaned off the forum:eek:

Like referenced above... the manual says it all.

I like Pennzoil Platinum 5W-30. The UOA's I've received on this oil have been stellar at high usage intervals. See below. I ran Castrol Synthetic 5W-30 as well initially and the numbers were also fine (the last two colums), but the oil always seemed to be out of viscosity spec after the interval for some odd reason (they are under the minimum). I haven't had that issue with Pennzoil as you see on the first column.

Thanks for posting the manual I literally have in my hands but I wonder if you even read my post to begin with 🏻
aww...yep...just throw that manual away....what do they know, right?......get some stp oil treatment and load that engine up.....don't worry about what the dipstick says.....you have all that heat, it'll seak it's own level....

Thanks for doing that work to share how well the Pennzoil holds up. I also use it and really like how smooth it makes my drive e engine run! I changed from mobil 1 and now I wont go back.

I really don't like reading snarky replies to legit questions here. If you don't like the question simply ignore it. It was common at one point in time to use heavier weight oil in extreme conditions and even recommended in the manual from various manufacturers. That being said I think the OP is asking if anyone here uses a heavier weight oil in summer months. Not a difficult question. If you don't, don't respond. If you do add your two cents but please people lets remain respectful here.

My advice to the OP. Modern engines are extremely sensitive to oil these days as manufacturers try to squeeze the friction out to meet demanding EPA regulations. I would stick to the type and viscosity stated in the manual.

I really don't like it when an OP puts out a question, then gets snarky with a comment when someone is just answering his post, which is what the OP ASKED for. So tell that to the original OP.
Don't ask questions if you can't take the answers.
It's common for a lot of people to do all kinds of things different from stated manual instructions. Their car, their money. Stay with the manual.

Castrol Edge 0w40 (The European formula made in Belgium/formerly made in Germany). It's been my go-to for over a decade as mentioned in the other thread and it has served me very well. I used to live in South Florida and now live in SW Texas which makes Florida temps look cool at times. :)

Get real. You were being sarcastic and condescending... You weren't "just answering his post". You knew better than to reply and should have just ignored it if it bothered you. It's not like he was in your face...

I think he was referring to the first reply to this thread, followed by the OPs reply.
