i could not find any mention of valve on the current s60... if one existed i would be interested in replacing my v60 CC set up with one.

if anyone thinks that the car has one and knows a part number or picture it would be helpful.

I have a 2019 Volvo S60 T6 R-Design and was curious if there is any way to program the exhaust valve (passenger side of exhaust) to stay open at all times?
You could try unplugging the unit. I believe when power (engine) is off, the valve is in the open position.

In this diagram, check the price on Part #18, and #19. Both are exhaust outlets, but #18 is $177, while #19 is $65. #18 has the exhaust control valve bulilt in.

Well i'll be damned. I'll eat my crow now, sure enough that's a valve on the passenger side. With the car off it seems wide open so I would guess unplugging it should also keep it open though I don't know if that would throw a code or not.

I'll go play with it and see if it changes in dynamic vs comfort and such.

Okay so I just recorded the flap and played with it a bit

Car warming up = flap stays open

Car warmed up = flap closes

Flap stays closed at idle no matter the drive mode, dynamic to eco, closed.

Give it the beans and it quickly opens and closes depending on the revs in both dynamic and comfort (my phone got blown over before I revved it in eco).

So as far as I can tell, it opens when you step on it, and closes the rest of the time.

Seems it's only on the twin charged engines (so T6 and T8), hence why it's not seen on the V60CC which is T5 only

Unplugging it seems to leave it open and not throw any codes.

It's wide open or totally shut, no where in-between. My video look supports this as well.

They seem to agree it's closed at idle and open under power

The question is does it *actually* change back pressure or is it pure sound? It is absolutely open when the car is cold at idle to warm up then closes. IMO if it were just about sound it wouldn't behave like that. I suspect it does materially affect back pressure for low-end torque and warming up the car. Also looking at the soot that builds up on the shiny fake exhaust tips it absolutely builds up pretty equally on both sides and i drive exclusively in comfort mode, meaning it's obviously open a lot of the time while i'm driving. This would support it's open basically any time on power and remains closed down low and at idle.

Sooooooo I think may as well just leave it alone

My 2019 S60 T5 has the valve as well. I agree, it's definitely there for back pressure/torque at lower rpms, and better flow at high rpms to help the turbo. It also helps heat the catalytic quicker. I'll be adding a higher flow muffler soon, and my plan is to retain exhaust control valve into the new setup.

I wonder if it would be beneficial to swap the T5 with T6 muffler and drive the flap manually somehow?
well according to AJS1KR the T5 does actually have the valve and the thread I referenced was mistaken. I guess take a look at yours with a flashlight and see if you have it, it's really obvious. Anyways replacing one OEM exhaust for another OEM exhaust would be a bit silly, if you're replacing for performance then you go custom or heico

Was thinking about both the items as you mentioned.

One get the flashlight in there and second depending on cost it might be better to go with aftermarket.

What I would love is keep stock and get a output straight from main collector that would dump out with remote activation.

However no one by me is capable of going custom like that.

I just looked at my 2020 T5 Inscription and it does not have the butterfly valve... is yours an R design?

I think I've figured out why my T5 has a muffler with a bufferfly valve. My car was rear ended in December 2019, and the muffler was replaced during the collision repair. I just physically looked under the car, and while there is a butterfly valve assembly on the exhaust end pipe, it's not plugged into anything :-( I checked the repair paperwork, but there's no part number listed for the muffler, it just says "New OEM Volvo exhaust muffler assembly". I'm betting they ordered the wrong oem muffler (T6) for my car (T5). I'm calling the collision shop tomorrow. Thanks for checking your T5's.

Do you have the integrated tail pipes? Meaning the tip is on the pipe itself instead of the big fake surround the other trim levels have? What trim level is your car?

You'll want to know the exact correct part numbers that should have been ordered before talking with the collision shop, the parts cache for these things is complicated, everything lists as fitting all models (because it does) but there's a text description that explains what they're for.

For example, the only thing that should matter on yours is the right exhaust tail pipe, won't be the whole exhaust. The ones without integrated tips have an extension as well that's a separate part number. Whatever part is "correct" on your car will list "W/ O SUPERCHARGER, W/ O INTEGRATED PIPES" or "W/ O SUPERCHARGER, W/ INTEGRATED PIPES" as the description for the part depending of if you have the tips or not.

I would specifically call your dealer's parts department and ask for the part number for your specific VIN for the right "Exhaust Tail Pipe" that shouldn't have a valve in it like the supercharged ones do. Tell the parts guy what happened, they'll probably get a kick out of the body shop screwing up

Now that said, having the valved one in there open the whole time doesn't matter at all, but you probably should get the "technically" correct part installed.

Well another option is to make it functional with a remote and have a nice set up .

Great info, thank you. I have a 2019 T5 Momentum with the single, round exhaust tips. I looked under the car this morning with a flashlight, and noticed weld marks at the rear of the muffler (where it meets the mid-pipe), and more weld marks where the tip meets the exhaust outlet pipes. The welds don't look factory, so I'm assuming they're from the repair and replacement. The tips are welded onto the outlet pipes, but the right outlet pipe (with the valve) seems to be a different size, and it looks crimped down right before the it connects to the round tip. I called my dealer and got the muffler part number (based on my VIN), and am waiting for the body shop to get me a list of OEM part numbers used.
