Re: can you visually distinguish b/w premium and non premium stereo systems? (Needsdecaf)

What's the scoop with this, I see it in the OM and on the brouchures, etc. "HU-850
Features: AM/FM radio, integrated 6-disc CD changer, 4x50W or 4x70W output plus 25W Dolby Pro Logic II, eleven speakers. A subwoofer mounted under the floor in the cargo area is available as an option. Consult your Volvo retailer."

So why the 4x50W or 4x70W? What determines what you get?

If you have the 850, you have the premimum system and 13 speakers.

Unless you have a V70R, which only comes with 11 speakers, they don't have the supplemental shelf speakers.

BUT you can get the optional Subwoofer.

Honestly, I have NEVER felt that my 803 lacked for bass, in fact I was surprised to find out there wasn't a sub in it. In the V I rode in with a Sub, it was too much, sounded ricey.

I'm pretty sure all of the US R models have a 300-watt (4x75) main amplifier located under the passenger seat, plus a 25-watt amplifier in the head unit that drives the center channel. That was with the HU-803. Did they change the amplifier when they updated the head unit?

I have reason to believe the "8's" in the front doors are really 7's, considering it's an option to have Dynaudio in these cars, and they just so happen to make 7" speakers as well.

I'm not saying I have Dynaudio stock in my R, but when I was just in there replacing the speakers, a 6.5" speaker wouldn't fit in the stock bracket, and an 8" DEF. wouldn't fit.

I couldn't even re-use any of the stock bracket when I put my better 8's in there. I had to custom cut a baffle board from MDF and make my own mounting plate....But it still needs to be spaced out a lil, because the window was hitting the magnet just a lil bit when I rolled it all the way down today. And that just can't be happening.

Re: (s60rdood)

If it's the premium system, then you should have Dynaudio speakers. They came standard with the premium sound package. I have heard that not all thirteen speakers are marked Dynauido on the back, though.

Well I've had both an HU803 (MY02 S60T5) and HU850 (MY06 S60R) and as far as SPL's or perceived loudness go I'd say they are about the same (other than less bass response in the HU850). Also, in both cases the amp is under passenger seat. But I still don't know if it means I have 4x50 or 4x75. Either way, what I've had in both S60's has been more than expected for a factory system.

So, does anyone know how to identify the 4x50W or 4x70W amplifier?
