In the MY CAR settings, I found the door mirror setting that automatically tilts both mirrors down when the car is in reverse. Not only when you press the L or R button, but every time the car is in reverse. I understand tilting the mirrors for parallel parking, but can’t imagine why this would be safe or useful all the time. Why does this setting exist?

So what is the question? Lol

You already acknowledged the usefulness when parking, and that is the point of the option. I like that it lets you select one or both, use the RH tilt a lot on mine.

The question is why would anyone need the other setting to see the ground 100% of the time when putting the car in reverse. The parallel parking feature already tilts the mirrors down to see the curb when pressing L or R in reverse. This other setting tilts both mirrors down every single time the car is put in reverse. If activated, you can only view the ground while backing up and never anything else like another car, post or wall.

I see your point, but it’s simply an option. I like not having to press the mirror buttons every time, sort of the same idea of not having to press “CAM” every time I reverse. Between the rearview mirror and camera, I don’t feel I’m missing the side mirrors when reversing (although I still physically turn around; have had the car since July and can’t force myself to 100% trust the camera lol). I do leave my LH mirror up though, only have the RH side set to tilt.

Searching for more info, there are complaints going back several years. But most are related to the ability to adjust the position or the speed, while some don’t see the point and disable it. It appears it is a preference largely based on where one normally parks their car. You either need it or you don’t. If the first and last thing the driver needs is to see a curb, I can now see why it might be important. But when you park in a garage or driveway, you don’t have use for it.

Very good points. I usually park in a driveway, but with 20” wheels, I’m scared to death of curbing them. That’s the only reason I use the feature, for when I visit my parents, etc. and must park on the street. Have to admit though, didn’t know until just before you posted that you could do a one-time tilt with the mirror buttons. :)
