Take a look at this. It's the next-generation V70 from Volvo, taken at an undisclosed location. Not ethe considerable changes to the rear, namely the taillights.

Is it just me, or does something look off about those inner taillight segments. The red is lighter, and could be partial disguise, though I suggest not. Etiher way, the new V70 is pretty interesting, with more of an uppright dimension to it, more in the spirit of the 240.

Looks more like a new V50 which I like, but personally I don't like this V70 if this is what it's really going to end up looking like.

Taillights look to be part reflector (inner) and lighted (outer). Just a guess.

Re: Back (hauerg@aon.at)

I agree -- I'm not a big fan of what I see here. Volvo currently has the most attractive wagon on the market with the current V70 and this doesn't seem to carry that forward.

Admittedly, I'm probably just disappointed that I won't be getting the 2003 VCC concept.

PS and OT: What's with all the duplicate threads spread out in the forums? I understand the attempt of bringing the same info to people who might not visit one portion of the forum or the other, but there's gotta be a better way. Can you create a faux-thread in one forum that just links to another thread in a different forum? Following multiple conversations on the same info is starting to grate.

Re: New V70 Undisguised in Latest Spy Photos (George@Swedespeed)

The rear end looks moer like a mini-van. I agree that teh current V70 wide and low is much more attractive than what I see in that pick. The whole car looks too tall, more minivan than wagon.

Isn't that what the XC90 is for?

Some people don't want the full effect of an SUV but still want extra room and higher ride height and don't want to be seen in a wagon.

Re: New V70 Undisguised in Latest Spy Photos (VolvoMax)

Extra room - not (I've got more usable seating and cargo room in my V70 than an Explorer)

Higher ride height = higher cg (rollover) = higher cd (mileage penalty)

Driving an SUV or wannabe SUV because you'd rather not be seen in a wagon - great, just what we need is some more vehicles that suck more gas, have less utility, are less maneuverable and more prone to roll-overs, and despite their step-up height can't manage to fit 3 kids across in the back seat.

I put a challenge out - find a vehicle that will sit a family of 5 comfortably, 6 or 7 in a pinch, gets high-20s or better mileage in real life driving.

Currently your option is the V70 or the 4cyl Highlander 7-pax version (if you can find one - hope you have better luck than me). The hybrid Highlander gets 22-23mpg real-life, btw.

I'll bet that the new 08 V70 will have an "uprated" base motor to replace the mere 168hp of the 2.4 (BTW, my "sporty" '71 142E was pretty close in weight and had 135hp), and the mpg will drop, all while giving a more acute peak to the pyramid made between the cg and footprints.

If Volvo wants to maintain their "social/global responsibility" status, stop spending so much soy ink on telling us how much the radiator coating on the V8-powered XC90 helps the environment and turn out a 2.0L V70 (or AT LEAST give us a 6th gear on the 2.4) that will get 30+mpg highway while driving in style. Or even better, when low-sulphur diesel hits the streets here, a D5 that gets ~50mph on the interstate.

Rant off.

Well, Max...I think that fad is not going to work. Look at how the XC70 sales have gone down. Look at the R-class from MB. A very nice car, indeed, but comsumers have showed that they want either a TRUE SUV or just a wagon that is sporty. Mazda's CX-7 is already been given away, here in SD.

XC70 sales have gone down because it is a wagon.
Its just too small.
A true crossover from volvo would be a hit.
As for your R class, MB has too many utes and it gets lost in the mix IMO.
Plus, it looks like a Pacifica
