This has probably been asked a million times before, but here goes!

Hi, We have just bought a 2004 V70 after managing to write off our 850 thanks to a boulder in the road while in cornwall . We have a CHMS630 disc changer which we took out of our 850 and would like to know can it be fitted to a HU 603 volvo car stereo, any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Glenda

Re: CD Changer help, please! (purplekatana)

Glenda I think you will probably find you're out of luck there. The HU you have does have cd-changer connection but I doubt the 2004 V70 software would accept your unit. Massively different cars the 850 and the V70.
I may be wrong, but... Anyway, you can often see Volvo cd-changers on EBay for reasonable money, and then you could sell yours! Just a thought. Nice to hear from another Brit!

lol, shan`t be going to Cornwall again!! Most expensive holiday we`ve ever had, had to buy another car just to get home, lot of difference between a Volvo and a Renault Laguna!

Thanks for your help, have to tell hubby he`s got to buy another one.

Sell it on eBay and buy one that will work there as well! Or better yet, go with an iPod which holds 100X more tunes and an adapter fitted to your Volvo (either Volvo brand or USA-Spec)!

In a word NO. Two different changers from two different companies with two different communication protocols between the changer and the respective head units. MadeInJapan is right all the way: skip the changer and go with an iPod.

Get one of these adapaters (be patient, it's almost available) http://forums.swedespeed.com/z...ge=19 and you'll never look back.

Re: (purplekatana)

For the Volvo? Not that I know of, unfortunately. However, I have often wondered if one of the other adapters (USA-Spec, Volvo, or Ed_mgr's) might work to some degree; they all behave like cd-changers. I'll ask Edwin and let you know what he thinks--if anyone knows it's him.

Coming from a person who really isn't into iPods (as they are), I really like my CD changer in my Volvo, and what's more, I can tell you the part # you need!

For your particular Volvo (04 V70) the changer # is 9488925. Be sure that you get the mounting bracket and harness for it from your dealer as I'm not sure if that's included.

But, my advice to you is, look on Ebay. There are scads of them there, reasonably priced, and most come with the harness, bracket, or both.

Happy findings!

Re: (ChambsT-5R)

Well that would be a solution, true, but if as I did when I wanted one of those, the lady finds all those for sale are in the US of A then she will have to pay import charges and VAT on top of the price when it arrives in the UK where she lives. I know this after buying an amp on EBay only to find the UK customs wanted ÂŁ24.00 off me just to let me have what I presumed I actually owned, having paid for it. As I had in the meantime totalled the HU803 I had bought on EBay (from a UK seller) by dropping it, I no longer needed the amp so the seller, a fine man, agreed to have it back so Ijust refused to accept it from customs assuming it would be sent back. That was in May '06. Here we are in September '06 and the thing is still sitting in a transport depot in Newport. That's Newport Isle of Wight, England, not Newport, Rhode Island. So there are some pitfalls in buying off EBay if the seller is someone who says 'sidewalk' not 'footpath', drives on the wrong side of the road and thinks creamed corn is a suitable human foodstuff. How do you insert one of those smileys anyway(s)?
However, if one can be found on British Territory (discounting Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Grenada, Bermuda, Gibraltar etcetera ) then that's the way to go. Mind you, then you need the bus cable and if hubby's not too good at DIY about 2 hours labo(u)r at Volvo. And no, Glenda, the bus cable is nothing to do with public transport <Wink, cheeky grin> it's the cable that connects the changer with the radio and transmits the instructions regarding which disc to play and which track. It may be in your '04 V70 already but I doubt it. The power cable should be there in the left hand (passenger) side cargo area behind the bit of trim that has a handle saying 'DO NOT PULL THIS HANDLE OR YOUR CAR WILL EXPLODE' if you bought my brother in law's V70, otherwise it will say something about lowering the rear sear headrests. Behind it is the fuse box and a load of wires. There will be a few wires wrapped up in grey foam spongey stuff. Those are they.

You should have gone to the Isle of Wight for your holiday - all the grockles who come here hit is pheasants. And peasants. ;-)

Please take the foregoing in the spirit is is intended. Joy to the world - if you can't take the pi$$ then there's no use living ;-)

PS, Stephen, your car looks very nice. What bit saw I of it ;-)

Re: (thevicar)

Well, I guess perhaps I had underestimated some of the pitfalls that might be enveloped into having a changer shipped from USA to the UK. However, I have also seen changers on their being sold out of the UK, so you could also snag one of those (actually, they're a bit easier to get because us U.S. bidders don't want to bid on those and pay outrageous shipping into the United States). Not trying to push you one way or the other - just saying its a viable possibility.

Stephen

PS - Thanks for the compliment on my 850 thevicar - I've got a whole folder of pictures of it I just haven't had the time to upload yet

I haven`t got an Ipod i`ve got the Sony NWA3000 HD Walkman, are there any adaptors available for that?

From Edwin:
"Unfortunately, every device (mp3 player) needs a box that does the protocol conversion. Everybody just likes to talk their own language (history repeats itself over and over), so there will always be proprietary boxes needed for every new device that comes to market. As for the Sony, the protocol and connection can be sniffed once accessories become available, and it will be some
day--if they get a market share at all.

It would have been a better idea if the devices could be controlled via e.g. USB, but that is only for data transfer, not for command exchange. Silly world."

So, infortunately, in a word: NO. Sorry.
