After reading all the feedback, I'm inclined to stop using Akebonos.

I gather there are 4 options for pads with equal or better than OEM with less dust?

Ceramic Thermoquiet
Bosch QuietCast
Brembo
EBC

If I had to choose one, which one should I get?
I think all 3 of these are great.

Bosch QuietCast
Brembo
EBC

Just figure out what you want to spend. I kind of like Brembo and or EBC as a second choice. Bosch is a solid 3rd.

My new to me XC90 arrived yesterday. It will need new pads F&R, possibly rotors too depending on whether they have enough meat to be turned still or not.

I'm planning to try the Wagner OEX 'vented' pads.

I'm still waiting to get my Nakamoto gear installed. I tried doing it Friday, but I could not get the bolt holding the caliper to the knuckle to crack on the driver's side. I hit it with the impact, and used a breaker bar. Since I was running out of daylight, I buttoned it up for another day. To make matters worse, I discovered the tire shop hammered the lug bolts to the point that my impact wouldn't break them, and I had to bounce on a breaker bar with my 220 pounds of mass to crack them. I hate when shops do that.

I used a bunch of PB Blaster and let it sit overnight. Then used a breaker bar and a rubber mallet to break them free. I was afraid that just twisting would move the socket funny and round a bolt off.

Ok, so my brief thought of them possibly being reverse threaded is behind me... I'll have to get another can of PB, and get them soaked.

Oh man that would be bad. Nope, they're all normal threads, just stuck on like no other.

I should be, FINALLY, doing the brakes today. These Nakamoto parts seem to be well made. I'm hoping I scored a good deal on fairly good brakes. Time will tell, of course.

The Wagner OEX pads were unavailable so I ended up with their MX series semi-metallic from a local vendor. So far so good. Not enough miles to tell how dusty they are but they seem decent.

I'll have more time to shop around in advance next time.

Akebono Ceramic pads all the way around:

Slow cold initial bite, no dust. The worst part is the clunk from front calipers I get when the velocity of the vehicle becomes zero.

Waiting to go the R calipers, where I will use Akebono again... Just need some et55 P3 20" wheels first!

I'm running an Australian pad in the front from QFM. (Queensland friction material) so far so good but only done 1000km on them. It's apparently aEuro spec pad and has reasonable reviews around the parts. Was going to get akebonos but here they were going to sing me $220 AUD for the front set ?
Running TRW Cotec pads and RDA rotors in the rear. They dust up a bit but not too bad.

I'm putting EBC yellow stuff pads on my XC90 this week. Mostly because I have EBC brakes on my Z/28 and the brakes will about put you through the windshield. Since my XC90 is rolling on 20" wheels, I think they will offer much better performance than anything other options.

Side note: If you are interested, I accidentally ordered two full sets and I'm past the time I can return them. Make an offer and they are yours!

Last weekend did my rear brake with new Volvo rotors and Akebono pads. First time replacing the rear rotors, the original down to 18 mm at 120k miles with nearly 10 years. My front pads are currently Akebono and very pleased with the dust. I bought the rear Akebono pads many years ago together with the front Akebono pads. So no chance of trying out other brands.

CN90, why Jurid at the rear? Not Akebono?

FYI Textar and Pagid have the same mother company. Textar makes the pads for non M BMWs, and Pagid makes the pads for the M BMWs. I have textar on the rears of my S80 V8 and at 98k am still on the factory fronts. We had Akebono pads on the 06 XC90, I don't think one rotor makes the car stop quicker than another brand rotor. The akebonos have a terrible initial bite. It felt like I was going to slide into the street when I backed out of the driveway. it took a while for them to warm up. the 08 XC90 has factory pads, the left front squeak to high heaven. When they are worn out I will probably put textar pads on the car.

I just bought 2 Zimmerman and 2 ATE rotors with pagid pads for the 323Ci we just bought for our daughter. Will report in a year or so.
