Hello everyone! This is my first Volvo, and I never thought I would be driving one. I have been driving BMW and Audi for a while. A friend of mine just got an S90 and when I sat in it I was completely blown away! When he told me the deal he got I was amazed. So I went to the dealer and walked out with a S90 T5 Momentum W/ Vision and Momentum + package.
I was fortunate to have to take a 500 mile trip the next day for work and here are my thoughts.

Absolutely love the car! Ride is amazing and super refined. Tech is great and I love driving something that unique. I live in south Florida and a 5 series is like a civic here.

Ok now some observations/gripes:

#1 gripe. My settings do not persist after engine restart. I turn off engine start stop/ change the adaptive cruise control distance /Change driving mode to dynamic. Every time I restart the car it goes back. Very annoying, especially start/stop. It is very hot where I live and the engine going off and taking the AC compressor with it at a traffic light is terrible.

The seat is very comfortable but I am still struggling a bit to find the perfect position for me. The headrest is especially problematic. From reading the forums I am not the only one.

The autonomous driving features are very cool especially on a long trip. It definitely cuts down on driving fatigue, however they are still very rough around the edges.

Transmission could be better I know its an 8 speed for comfort but at times it doesn't seem to know if it wants to upshift or downshift and it shifts hard or just hangs. I hope this will get better with time.

Turbo lag is very bad, I press the gas and have a noticeable delay every time. I may end up regretting not getting the T6 but with the lease deal I got it was hard to pass up the T5 and I can get a new one in 3 years anyway.

The On Call app works very intermittently. It will say the remote start has started and I go out to my car and it is not running ( I am well within the timer) Is says my doors are locked when they are not and vice versa.

The parking break engaging when the seatbelt is off is annoying as well. I never drive without a seatbelt however I have a very long driveway and may move my car to let someone out and i don't need the parking break engaging all of a sudden.

Carplay is amazing but I wish I could make it full screen I don't need to see all the native apps displaying "controlled by carplay". I would also like to see the the nav in the center of the gauge display like the native nav. If it can show media info from Carplay it should be able to show the nav.

The dash gauge display in general is disappointing. There is very little customization, they should take a page from Audi Virtual cockpit.

I love the car. The interior is the nicest I have seen under 100K. Everyone that sits its is blown away and the rear seat leg room is nuts! I may be a Vovle convert for life but for now I am certainly a new fan!

My new S90 is my 6th Volvo, and yes, it is an amazing car. I bought mine in DE while escaping Irma. I'm glad I got the Inscription, the seats are worth the price. I have a bad back, so seat comfort is #1 for me when looking at cars. Overall, Volvo has the best in the business. You just need to keep fiddling with it as you drive around. What I do is save your current setting as memory #1. Then fiddle, adjust, and when you think you have a better position, save that as memory #2. Then keep fiddling, save next perfect setting as memory #1, and so on, until you have two best settings saved.

The reason you lose settings is the car remembers all settings from the key. Every time you make changes, you have to go to driver profiles in settings, uncheck the box to save to key, they select it again. It will display settings saved to key.

Re the headrests: I got the neck pillow, a bit pricey but it works. It does have a cool Volvo tag on it, so there's that.

Not sure of the differences between '17s and '18s, did you set the driver profile? That should hold your adaptive cruise control settings.

There is another thread that mentions the car always has to start in comfort mode due to EPA regulations. Same thing with the start/stop.

The ECU will adjust to your driving habits over time.

Try using the DYNAMIC drive mode. The car will default to comfort were it will prioritize a less racy ride. Also, POLESTAR tuning is available for T5's so you may benefit from faster shifts / increased torque if the DYNAMIC setting is still not enough.

Volvo is a little bit anal when it comes to safety ;) welcome to the club and congrats!

Welcome and congrats on the new S90.

Make sure you're using premium fuel. If the car was filled with regular fuel by the dealership, it will run like crap until you resolve that.

As for the parking brake, just turn off Auto Brake Hold when you're in your driveway and it won't auto apply the parking brake. There's also a setting in the settings menu you may want to change.

Believe it or not, despite spending a significant amount on my car I've been too cheap to install an automatic garage door opener. So I have to deal with turning auto start/stop and auto brake hold off every time I get out to open the door when I get home. It's annoying.

Regarding premium gas I have already filled it twice with premium. The good news is I am already seeing throttle response improve as it gets used to my driving.

For the parking brake. I don’t think you understood what I meant. I am not talking about auto brake feature. I am talking about if you try driving without your seatbelt the car will engage the parking brake and will not allow you to release it till your seatbelt it on.

I understand, actually. In my 17 V90, if I take my seatbelt off it will automatically engage the parking brake. But I can press the parking brake button down and continue to drive UNLESS auto brake hold is turned on. If auto brake hold is on, it behaves the way you're describing and I have to put my seatbelt on to get it to release the parking brake. So what I do is press my foot down on the brake, press Auto Brake Hold (to disable it), then push down the Parking Brake switch. Then I can drive without my seatbelt.

This only happens if you have the auto brake feature turned on. If it's off, then you can drive without the seatbelt and the parking brake won't engage.

Excellent. Thank you for the clarification.
