Do you have to turn the auto hi beams on every time you get in the car? Is there a way to default them to stay on?
AFAIK, each time you get in the car, I don't think the ring on the stalk stays in the auto position and I haven't seen a setting to remember that setting. But living in a city, I don't often use the feature so let someone else confirm to be certain.

Yes, you must turn active high beams on every time you start your car. There is no default setting in My Car or System settings. Maybe a nice to have for those of us in rural areas, but a simple 1/8 twist on the left stalk (in RH cars) is all it takes.

The owner's manual confirms this ( and Reeg too).

Auto wipers survives multiple car sessions. For no pattern I have been able to discern, they sometimes shut themselves off but it's not consistent. I usually only notice they are off when my windshield starts to get covered in rain and they don't go on and I look and the icon has disappeared. But other times it stays on for weeks at a time.

Auto high beams must be manually set every time.

Auto High Beams must be turned on each time. Auto Wipers there is a setting to keep the auto feature on at each vehicle start. As someone mentioned, theirs turns off for no reason. I don't leave mine set to auto so I cannot comment about the auto turning off by itself.

We don't get a whole lot of rain around here, so I forgot that I had enabled it a couple of times. It was more of a bother than a boon, so no big deal-- I am just happy that we can disable it.

Same. Not a big deal and I use auto wipers, but I simply turn them on when I want them on instead of leaving them on all the time. Of course, to each their own and I am glad Volvo did include an option that enables the setting to suit everyone.

Is auto high beams a US option? If so please explain...

It's definitely available in the US. I have no idea if it is standard, standard in certain trims or part of one of the option packages. I have an FE so it came with mine.

It's activated by twisting the headline setting one beyond Auto on the turn indicator lever. Auto is the furthest the dial can rest in a fixed position and the Auto High Beam is a toggle that snaps back to Auto.

In any event, it works pretty well when you remember to turn it on each time.

I did not think that it responded quickly enough on tight, curvy mountain roads, so I don't use auto highs under those conditions. That isn't very surprising, though. Otherwise, I love it, although like everyone else here I would prefer the more sophisticated version found in most places outside the US.
