Installed filter today while at the dealer getting my speed limiter removed. For some STUPID reason, half the stock filter is covered in foam. That can't be good for air flow. Richard said it was for noicse reduction.
Stock filter was pretty loose, just lifted out.
I really had to work BMC in there. Very high quality product BTW. These are reusable right? I can just wash it off?
Ok, first thing I noticed was the sound. Engine sounds really cool now. Already sounded better with the DP, but its like the tone that I like from DP addition is increased now. I think I can hear the turbo now more too, but never having owned a turbo car before, I can't be sure. It's not loud, it just sounds sweet under WOT. Sounds completely stock otherwise. This is the engine note I'm talking about, not the exhaust (that gets changed in 12 hours).
Second thing I noticed was increased pull above 4000. It is VERY smooth and just keeps pulling till my G-tech LEDs flash. I know it sounds stupid because it is just a filter, but it really made a difference. It's like I'm actually utilizing the increased flow capacity from the DP now. And speaking of smooth, it is totally easier to drive now. Shifting is very smooth. I was not expecting this, I guess just giving the engine the air it needs makes a huge difference.
Please note I'm fully aware that the increased sound can make it seem faster, but I did a quick G-tech run. I completely took it easy on the launch (ok I screwed the launch up), so my 0-60 was only 6.1 (my normal for a good launch is 5.8 with DP). So, my 1/4 was only 14.3, but speed was over 100 mph. So that tells me the filter is doing something, especially when car gets up and moving. Previously, even with good launches, I would usually get 99-101 mph 1/4s.
Let me know if you all experience the same improvements when you put your filters in.
BTW, saw 157 before I ran into traffic
. I would have hit 160, but accelerates very slow after 145 because you have to shift into 6th. Exahuast tomorrow should help though, but what I really need is a softloader. Still a race between Svenske, SCT and BSR.
