Time to bump this one up. I finally got some track time in the V60 this past weekend. It was a two day event at Roebling Road. Five 25 minute session each day. I did over 100 laps over the weekend.

Overall the car performed very well. I didn't have any heat related issues with the transmission or brakes. I haven't installed a transmission cooler yet, and (against my better judgement) was still running the stock break fluid. The air temp being around 60 all weekend probably helped, and Roebling is relatively easy on brakes and transmissions. Just one big breaking event each lap into turn one, about 130 mph down to 80 or so and only 4 to 5 shifts per lap. The rest of the lap is all sweeping corners taken 50-80 mph, 7 right handers and 2 left. Tire wear was the biggest issue during the weekend. I swapped the left and right side tires after the last session on Saturday to keep the wear even. By the time the last couple of session came around Sunday afternoon, they were pretty shot.

The car handled well all weekend. I started out running the dampers at 10 and 5, and then moved the rear up to 3 after the first session on Sunday. The stiffer rear helped the car rotate a little better through turn five to make the exit quicker. The hardest corner for this car at Roebling is the 6-7 right hand sweeper. It's a down hill, slightly off camber sweeper that I had to get into a little slower to keep the front end from washing out. It was really the only place on the track where I could really feel all the weight on the front end. Ultimately, there would be understeer anywhere on course where i would push it too much. The first session on Sunday was a little damp and I managed to get the rear out on the exit of turn two, but that was the exception.

Here's a video of my fastest lap following a new Porsche Cayman with KW Clubsports. He was breaking earlier than me into turn 1 so I had to roll off the throttle a little early, and I gave him a little room into turn 3, the first left hander. I probably could've shaved off a little time, but by the time I got some consistent clear track, the tires were gone and I was running low 1:31s. There were some folks there taking pics, so I might have a few on track pictures to post in a few day.

https://goo.gl/photos/nNGzyznpJtKtjYrY7 - I was using an old HTC One for the video, so it's a little shakey and the audio is mostly wind noise (windows down). It also seemed to focus on glare on the windshield, so it's not the best quality. The speed is a little off at times since it was using the GPS sensor from the phone, which has a slower refresh rate.

Now if that doesn't want ya to get out and try some hot laps , nothing will. Thanx for posting

Fantastic to hear! Sounds like a great time.

Off camber downhill turn is not this car's friend on the street (I take one in dog-leg form every time I drive home) . I can imagine on a track! ;)

Thanks again for the report! As I have no evidence of my time at the track (other than some not so sharp still photos taken by the track's photographer my day), I bought Pentax's answer to the gopro on clearance for my next time out. But it won't have the annotations of your recording. I really like the overlay you have on your recording.

Awesome footage, and appropriate timing. I went to Monticello this weekend, and I had to use the Polestar. It started out at 34*, and the day finished up at 52*.

First off, I had full day with an instructor, another Porsche Club guy, and DE instructor. My 911 GTS was held up at the port for an insane amount of time, and was supposed to be in for the track day. My guest sheet had the car listed as: 911 GTS or Volvo wagon. The instructor almost called in sick if he had to instruct someone in a Volvo wagon.

The day started off with a ride in their Jag F-type R to learn the South track. We then switch to the P*, and I took the wheel. There were 6 20 minutes sessions during the course of the day, comprised of South track, North track, Full track lunch and repeat. We had 40 minutes of rest between track sessions.

The south track was great with a lot of smooth apex turn ins, which didn't require super heavy braking. The north track had a chicane similar to Laguna, switchback, and required more hard braking than the South track. The full track allowed the brakes to recover a bit more. During both sessions on the North track, the brake fade was evident, which caused a bit of understeer in turn 1. After the afternoon session, I pushed the car so hard on the North track, the brakes were smoking hot. I had to drive around a few laps to cool it off.

One thing the instructor noticed about the car was how responsive it is. It is more than apt to do its job. All of the Jags were in our way, and I overtook them almost every time. The growl from the exhaust made everyone take note, and it prompted many questions. Such as, what modifications were done to it, etc.
I have videos, but need to upload them somehow.

Steve, I am up for a lime rock day.

Monticello .... nice place! Love the account. I'm down for Lime Rock again, but my car is not until spring. Driving to Stowe VT this week, so I had to put the snows on the car.

Thanks for the detailed and therefore very useful account. Video was fine for its purpose!

Monticello sounds like a fun place to run with some nice variety! What tire pressures were you running? I started out at 42/44 F/R cold, and they would get up to about 45/46 when hot. I went down to 40/43 cold by the end of the weekend, which seemed to work pretty well. If we could get some negative camber and positive caster in the front end, grip and tire wear would be much better.

On another note, it was kind of nice to get the "so what mods have you done to it?" questions followed by the "that's stock?!?!" reactions. As one guy told me after the second session of the weekend, there's something sexy about a wagon going fast!

Roebling

When is the next time you are doing a track day at RR, would be cool to go head to head. Also freak a lot of Porsche owner off. TWO wagons!!! -bw

If i go back to Roebling this year, it probably won't be until the fall. I'm looking at a Track Night in America event in late may at CMP, and then maybe AMP in July or late August with Just Track It. AMP is a bit of a drive from here though so that could change. I've never been to either track, looking for a little more variety.

CMP is an awesome track. AMP is beyond awesome and quite frankly, probably too much for a road car (the hills make the difference). I have both in a racing simulator. Would hesitate to take my own P* to AMP although would love to hot lap that track in something more suitable. You are fortunate to have a good selection of high quality tracks in reasonable proximity.

gtsxr - Let me know, I can convince the wife this is a 'vacation' weekend. -bw

1:30 really isn't that bad considering your on street tires, no camber to help in the long sweepers. Darn shame harry's lap timer is so far off from the 1mhz gps. I"m going to buy an external GPS for my Garmin Virb real soon.

I figured with a fresh set of tires, mine had 15k miles on them, and a clean track I could probably get down to 1:29, maybe a mid 1:28. I relaid the data on that lap using the speed from the ODB2, makes it bit more usable.

Kinda surprised the car wasn't flat through T3 and T9. I've only had one car at roebling Data and it's from my Garmin which is only like a 2 mhz sample rate.
Based on those MPH's I'd be willing to bet that it could get close to those times.

Sign up for sebring NASA in may. Ill be down there instructing. Not sure what im driving as my time trial car is in about a thousand pieces right now.
