I have a trolley jack and have found the safe locations under the subframe but I noticed that under the sills there are arrows moulded in the sill, which I found out are jacking points for garages to use, but if I have a bottle jack and place it directly under that arrow with a hockey puck as protection, is that a safe way to quickly lift the car for a tyre change?

I don't see why not. What does the owners manual say? You may want to use some pieces of wood to more distribute the pressure the jack puts on that area. If you are unsure, use the frame rails to jack the vehicle up.

Yeah i looked in the manual and haynes and it seems they are there specifically for the garage jacks, you know the big hoist ones but I've never jacked up at the sill before but assumed it would be ok as it says its a reinforced area, just didn't want to crack or bend anything!

Just keep an eye out for rust. A friend of mines 99 V70 had a flat the other day, I came to the rescue, but sadly didn't have a proper jack, we had to do it with the OEM suicide jack. Plain and level ground, jacked nice and slow, the factory jack point (little latch pointing down behind the front wheel) bent right away and is now pressed up towards the floor of the car. Rusted to pieces.

When using a floor jack with adequate height, I tend to jack on the hitch bar or connecting points, and on the subframe bolts. Never had any problems, overlooking the fact that I need a low profile jack to access the front subframe bolts.

There's a jacking point about halfway down the sill that will lift both front and rear at the same time. This is the safest place to jack it up if you have a floorjack. Be carefull around the engine subframe. I jacked mine up whilst doing an oilchange and put a small dent in it.

Thats the one I bent using the OEM jack, real exposed to rust. Never had a problem with the subframe, but I jack on the bolts, not on the frame itself.

Same thing happened to me with the death jack! I won't go near that mid way point as it bent as I was changing a tyre! which is why I'm hesitant about using the sill but all the info points to the arrows being safe points.
