Hey all, been a while, but this weekend I finally got the chance to do a project I have been curious about for a while.

I got a new phone so I was left with my old Galaxy S4. I took an old case, and our flip up GPS and created a mount.

I can do a "write up of how I ripped this thing apart, but here is basic gist:
1) Remove GPS
2) Disassemble it and remove the screen
3) Make mounting plate
4) Mount phone holder to mounting plate
5) route charging cable

Here is what I ended up with: (it is rough for now)

I even added the magnet from the case so the phone sleeps when it closes:

I bought this sensor:

So I am on Torque Lite. Here is a full list of all the parameters that our cars report and do not report:
(*=Volvo reports it)

For Turbo Boost Gauge it states "Full Support in Pro Version" however, I doubt that it does for us.

Kova seems to state in this thread (post #3) (http://forums.swedespeed.com/showthread.php?198039-Torque-Pro-App) that even the Pro version won't read it.

Well, I have been using Torque (paid) for about a month, and I can only speak for me, but it seems pretty accurate to me. I do have a boost gauge to compare it to an have spent a lot of time looking at the two and they are usually in line or very close. I have read most of those threads as well and like I said I'm only speaking from my experience.

Really cool idea! Might be handy for using Waze too, which I use way more than the dash GPS since the traffic is better. Of course you'd need to keep a data plan on the phone for apps like that, which you don't need for Torque.

I wonder if there's an Android tablet that would be a close fit for the GPS display bezel? And/or a way to rig the bezel so it's easy to pop the phone in and out, more like a dock.

You have boost with the paid version?! I have read several times over that that wasn't the case. Looks like I am picking up the paid version when I get home.

If you could have the GPS phone bluetooth to your main phone for internet access, that might be more cost effective.

I took the bezel with me to the Sprint store when I picked up the new phone. I am trying to remember exactly which phones fit perfectly, but a knock off chinese phablet would be perfect for this.

Well, that may have been the case at the time and tbh I wasn't expecting much from it when I got since I already had a gauge setup. I was actually surprised to see that I was seeing numbers well inline with what my gauge was saying. I set it to read in Bar (since my gauge is PSI) and it's hitting the .6/.7 range which I believe is around 10psi. At first the numbers were super high so the only thing I did was set the boost adjustment to -14.7 since I'm at almost a 5k foot elevation and that seemed to have ironed out the discrepancy.

Hey, I'm at 5500 too! :D

Torque Pro has produced good boost numbers with My V50, my Neighbors WRX, and my ex-jetta...

Dash command comes with boost/ vacuum and tooooons of custom PIDS I had an iPod touch mounted for a while but works much better with a phone for some reason even over wifi.

Also from personal experience I'm very happy with the set up and data.

Thanks guys, I finally have a boost reading. Grand total of 7psi in 2nd (Didn't have time to find a freeway on ramp last night.

And thanks for letting me know huskeyman, I won't hesitate to install pro on my other devices to send a couple more beers his way!

When I was doing my research it was mentioned that the sweet spot is in 3rd and 4th and the numbers in 1st/2nd aren't as meaningful, so whenever you can get it up to speed you should see it pop up to hopefully around 10psi.

I have the dash command- after it was recommended to me here. i have to say the numbers for boost i get arent too far off of what i'd imagine theyd be.. but cant be sure how in the ball park they are. But the diagnostic troubleshooting alone was worth the ~30$ as im here trying to get rid of a CEL. Although the Chinese ELM327 clone doesnt sit in my obd-II port too well- always falling out.

The one I got is about 3" long it's a little beefier then some of the other ones but fits perfect.

Ya, I second this as well. I learned a tough lesson that could've been avoided had I been thinking and been a little less stupid. You see I failed my smog test this week because last weekend I had/wanted to clean some oil off my engine I had spilled topping off. While I was in there cleaning and even though I've changed the solenoid, it trips a P0080 code whenever I move that wiring around.

Well fast forward to me trying to get a smog this week with a CEL (stupid) and unfinished Emissions Cycle. Well I'm now $20 lighter and have an overdue renewal  I guess had it only been the unfinished cycle with no CEL, it would've rejected vs. fail and I wouldn't have to pay. It's the same dam screen they see at the station (conveniently named in the app "Emissions Readiness") so I had access myself to see it would fail ahead of time had I put it together.

Now I'm using it to monitor my cycle waiting for it to complete and getting this dam CEL to go away. At least I don't have to guess as to when it'll be ready wasting more $$$/time potentially. I know the code is just showing because it's in the computer and it will eventually go off because the part has been changed and the code didn't pop until I messed around in there. I also know that clearing it won't truly clear it so I guess I just have to wait.

Of course I topped it all off by snapping one of the engine cover bolts in the engine so all in all this was NOT one of my more successful ventures. Moral of the story...don't spill oil on the dam engine!!!

Sorry for the rambling :hijack: but I don't want someone to make the same mistake I did and show how this app can be useful if used properly. It's more than just a fancy way to look at boost levels.

Choc, I use torque when my dice and a laptop aren't available, and recently had some misfires that I was able to diagnose, and repair with torque. I'm still waiting for my readiness settings to complete, but it's been about a week. I've found some drive cycles for an 850, but just stumbled upon this today:

http://new.volvocars.com/ownersdocs/2005/2005_Emission/OBD_II_Emission_Inspection.pdf

This PDF shows a different drive cycle than I've been trying to preform. Might be worth giving it a shot. I'm going to let my car cool down and hopefully pop one off tonight!

Good luck!!
