Greetings All.
Just thought I'd share a few pics of an 'upgrade' I did a week ago in our 2006 XC90 V8. I bought a roll of this Carbon Fiber-like looking material (some kind of vinyl I assume) off eBay a good while ago... but just never got around to putting it on. I thought it was a good time to do it, as I needed to pull the stereo out to inspect the connector on the CD changer.
Going from memory, I popped up the (2) rubber pieces in front and back of the center console to expose the Torx screws, which I believe were T15 or T20. Remove those, pop up the plastic piece surrounding the shifter and I think you'll then have access to the main piece to cover. Cut a piece about 1" larger on all sides... peel back, put in place and smooth out. I used a sharp X-Acto knife to trimming, taking care on the corners.
The piece on the glove box was real easy, only (2) screws to remove to get that out.
Total time invested was about 30-45min, and I think it's a HUGE improvement over looking the f-ugly woodgrain. I removed the flip-down/up door that usually covers the drink holder area. Not needed, it was usually in the 'up' position anyways.
I have one more small area to do, on the back of the center console... but I really don't 'see it' that much, so I'll get to it eventually.
This is my first time trying to insert/post pics in a message... so we'll see if it works. If it doesn't, my apologies. Perhaps someone could offer to assist.
Take care.
Gregg
