So a month ago I found out that even though a grey volvo can fool k and ka band radars it won't fool laser. :( As I was watching the defensive driving videos there was a Mazda 6 wagon, kinda made me wish we still had ours, wife is dead against me putting her in another wagon so no v60 in our future.:( There are many facets of defensive driving that I would like to comment on but I'm sure all the R-design owners understand my pain.
But during the video they talk about what to do if you have brake failure. This is my first car with an electronic parking brake, how do you feather into something that seems to be on or off?

The manual says to push and hold the emergency brake button in an emergency.

On a related note, to stop the engine while moving (should that ever be needed):

If the gear selector is not in the P position or if
the vehicle is moving, press the button twice or
press and hold it in until the engine switches off.

The button is the START/ STOP ENGINE button.

I've never tried that or pressing the parking brake while moving.

I think the "parking brake while moving" test should be done on a FWD vehicle, if you've got an AWD, don't do it unless absolutely necessary.. I can't imagine the AWD system would be happy about that, right? But I'm curious if it works, so any T5 guys want to try it? :)

I agree it should be someone else's car, just don't know who's willing to volunteer.

Nothing bad is gonna happen to the AWD....it's just gonna wear your parking brake pads down, lock up the rear wheels. When your foot is off the accelerator there is no significant power transfer occurring in the AWD system. Won't be any different than yanking up on the hand break.

True. And in any case the Haldex always disengages when you use the hand brake.

Confession: I had a rock stuck in my brakes yesterday afternoon on the way home. After getting in and out of the car bout 10x in the 90°F heat and stopping and going about 15x, I had a momentary lapse of sanity and accidentally hit the parking brake before I had stopped the car. I was going about 15 miles per hour on the shoulder. At that speed, it works really ****ing fast. The brake is plenty powerful and had stopped the car before I even realized what I was doing.

Edit: By the way, this broke the stone loose. :)

What are you talking about?
Color of the car has nothing to do with how police radar can detect it, does it?

BTW for laser they target your front plate or your headlights, not any painted surface. You could try Laser Veil.

Do they still use k and ka anywhere? I just want to say I feel your pain :-(
Laser is pretty rare in the midwest and rocky mountain states. KA is everywhere. K is mostly phased out by cops but you still find it on roadside signs that show you your speed, etc...

I was joking about the stealth gray volvo tricking the police. I have blown by a couple then the poor person that I was passing got the ticket. Passing in the right lanes won't fool laser.

No. I think they're talking about the old "red cars look faster" (or "red cars get more tickets") and the contrary "plain old cars look slower" -- therefore less likely to get a speeding ticket.
