My carpeted a pillars were starting to peel back so I found a good deal on ebay and ordered up some early 2000s Volvo S60 a pillar trim pcs that have no carpeting. Install was easy.

there are airbags behind the pillar. neat! there is a metal clip at the top of the pillar that releases simply by pulling. There is a fir tree fastener with some plastic "leashes" that theoretically keep the pillar from killing your face in a crash.

mysterious wiring loom socket in the passenger side pillar, anyone have a clue as to what its potential function is?

Here is where things get VERY INTENSE

because the S60 is globally available in LHD and RHD, there is a bracket for the "ticket clip" on both sides, so I got 2 fresh ticket clips to really top off my upgrade

My carpeted pillars are in the classifieds: http://forums.swedespeed.com/showth...com/showthread.php?204350-S60-S60R-carpeted-a-pillar-trim&p=2244898#post2244898

I've done this to a couple of cars including my 04 VR
I would not call this "intense", it takes all of 15 minutes or less.

I hope I still retain my sense of humor when I get older.

No worries, it was obvious to those of us with functioning Humor Identification Units (HIUs).

When my carpet started to release I got some leather-grained vinyl from JoAnn's and glued it on. The dark color compliments the rest of the interior - too bad my b-pillar covers are still Gobi tan. Someday I'll paint them I suppose.

I take neither and ZIP IT.
Nothing to do with humor, it's not labor intensive in any way and the thread should not state such.

This is not VS. If you want to act like the children over there...go there and STAY THERE!

I performed exactly the same procedure on my R, I threw out the old carpeted pillars because I failed at repairing the passenger side with the wrong glue...turned out very ugly. Much happier with the regular S60 pillars.

I was wondering the same thing, I have the same on my car and it is not plugged in. Factory pre-wired for RHD boost gauges? :D

well, looking at the LHD driver pillar connections, I'd imagine they are for the same thing, just cheaper to wire both sides

and I had honestly never heard of those plastic push fasteners referred to as fir tree fasteners until today. I always called them, those cheap ****ty plugs that stop functioning after several removals lol

Pre-wired for both, RHD and LHD plus there are lights in the RHS vanity mirror anyway
The extra plug is for the Homelink visor

Costs were:

Ebay drivers side pillar: $17
Ebay pass pillar: $40
Ebay ticket clip (New): $12
Dealership ticket clip (New) $5

Shipping my factory pillars I sold: $14

Total Costs: $88

Proceeds from sale of my original pillars: $30

Net costs: $58

This upgrade is indeed VERY INTENSE because I installed 2 ticket clips, one for both drivers and passenger side

I should do this to mine seeing my fabric is coming loose is a few places. Anyone wrap theirs in carbon or something like?

I've been toying with wrapping them with some faux black suede that I got from JoAnn's Fabrics years ago. I had used it for some 850 door inserts years ago.
