So the time has come... My wife has grown out of the R and it is too much for me to drive daily. I love the car, but I think the time has come. The car is a 2005 with just over 110,000 miles. I just recently did the timing belt, cam position sensors, plugs and fuel filter. The car is solid and drives amazingly well.

I have the following issues that need to be addressed before I officially let it go:

1. New front shocks (one side is leaking)
2. Put AWD back together - Angle gear was gutted about a year ago
3. New tires

My questions are:

1. Should I try to sell it as it sits to an enthusiast? I would obviously discount appropriately to cover the new parts.

2. Should I fix everything and ask top dollar?

What is the car worth either way?

Maybe like $13k probably. If you put money into fix it, you may sell it sooner but you won't recover the money you just put in. Is it an MT/GT? Interior color(I'm assuming Gobi/Nordkap?) What options does it have?

I'd say sell it to me for $1000 and I'll do all the work and make your troubles go away. :) JK
sorry to see you giving it up.

Wow - a tough one. You want to sell an AWD wagon that has no AWD in need of a very expensive strut repair and 1K in tires?!?!?!? And this during winter when people generally want an AWD vehicle.

Honestly - I would do nothing and trade it in. Let someone else deal with it. You are going to get hosed on it though and you should know up front. Any idiot lights on? If they are get ready to grab your ankles.

Anyone else reading this - this is a good reason why you need to stay current on your vehicle maintenance.

KBB recommends $12,200 for a "very good" 2005 VR with 110K miles (in New Jesey). Auto trans I am guessing. I paid about $1K for two front struts installed (which was a deal); I hear angle gears are about $2,500 and tires are probably $200 a pop. So selling it "as is" to a private buyer, I'm thinking $8K or so. If you do all the work, then the $12,200 seems correct and in line with what a previous poster estimated.

Someone who knows what they are doing could find a used angle gear in good condition for ~$500.

Your car looks extremely clean, I would list it here for sale in the classifieds and wait for the right buyer without spending the money on it. Personally I would not let it go for anything under the $10-13k range. More pictures would also help determining its condition and value.

Current pics.... The tires in that pic look brand new..... Would you honestly buy this car knowing it hasn't been maintained properly?

Just to clarify - The car has been well maintained. The reason I am running without an Angle gear is that I had it go out the 2nd week I owned the car. I gutted it to get the car drivable as a temporary fix and honestly liked it better. I am in Southern CA so even though the car is daily driven it has only been in the rain about 10 times this year.

As I started to think about selling it I did a once over and noticed that one shock is weeping just a bit. With the Mileage I would replace the front shocks if I was keeping the car.

The pictures above are from about 10,000 miles ago... the tires are worn enough on the outside edges that they also warrant replacing, but are by no means neglected.

I was figuring $ 500.00 for the Angle Gear, $ 500.00 for the shocks and $ 500.00 for the tires and a weekend of wrenching to ask top dollar... but wanted to see if there was an enthusiast that wants it for a deal... I would let the car go tomorrow for $ 12,500, but was thinking more like $ 15,000 with everything fixed.

It is a GT with Nordkap and re-dyed front seats (not me, the previous owner). The car has the subwoofer, but no navigation. I am the second owner. I would love to see $13 as it sits
Ill take it for $13 but not 13K haha. GLWS
