Getting about time for new tires at almost 40k miles. The road noise from the tires is getting loud. Drive my car year round and do not put on winter wheels. Stock tires were OK (except for the noise) but was wondering if there were other recommendations. Anybody have experience with other tires?

I don't know how those handle in the snow, but I didn't like them on the Florida roads with my BMW. The BMW was setup completely different though so I'm sure they are quite different on a C70. I can tell you the BF Goodrich g-Force Super Sport A/S are terrible in the snow and cannot recommend them. I put them on a car I sold my sister in Michigan and she complained about them. I thought she was just complaining, but I took the car for a ride on some snow and they were very slick. My C70 has the stock Michelin tires and it does good in most conditions, including the snow. I believe they are Michelin Primacy MXM4.

After much research ended up going with the Contenental Extreme Contact DWS about 2 weeks ago. So far, really like them. Corner and hold the road very well. Handling was excellent in recent rains. I'm sure I will get to test them in the snow soon enough.

I am seeking the same thing right now. I have the 18" Pirelli summer tires on and I just sold my old faithful Touareg, my cold weather ride, so this is a big decision. I never drove the C70 in cold weather. I have almost 6k miles in over 3 yrs, not alot, but summer tires are definitely not a safe bet for the winter. It's a toss up between the Contis or the Michelins. There really is nothing else that I find in all season to match what I have now. Called Pirelli and they have discontinued the PZero Nero M&S tires and couldn't tell me what is in the works, if anything, for the C70 in 18's.

I have been running Bridgestone Potenza pole position RE960AS on my C70 for the last 5k miles (235/40/R18). I had a set on my 2006 Saab Aero Convertible and was very pleased with the wear and traction with a 245hp manual transmission FWD. Tread wear 400, traction AA, temp A. I'm not sure if they are the best for snow from the tire rack comparison, but they are worth a look:

I have had both the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S and the BF Goodrich g-Force Super Sport A/S on my S40 T5. The Michelin's are a little noisy, they do OK in the snow, but for some reason not very good in the snow going in reverse (backing up). The BFG's handled better, wore out quickly (12,000 miles) and are only good in the snow with full tread. Once the tread gets a little worn they loose a lot of traction, however they are better than the Michelin's on ice and strangely backing up in the snow (which you do after you get stuck going forward!). I have yet to drive the Kumho ECSTA LX's that are on my C70 in the snow, but both the Michelin's and the BFG's handle better but the Kumho's are less noisy and seem to have better tread wear.

While I do not own a C70, I'd suggest you consider dedicated snow tires on separate wheels. Optimize your tires for your 4 season environment.

I've too been very happy with the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S. Replaced a set at 39K, after a sidewall puncture. they still have about 10K left on them. When new, they are very quiet and agree they are loud when well worn.

I've got Conti ExtremeContact DWS High Performance All-Season tires, and like them a lot. My original tires were the Pirelli PZero Rosso summer tires that came with the 18" wheels (car is a 2007), which wore out VERY quickly, and also got very noisy as they wore. The Conti's have a much higher treadwear rating, being all-season tires. They don't have quite as sharp a turn-in as the Pirelli summer tires, but the handling is still very good. And they are MUCH quieter. Michelin's would have been nice, too, but they cost a fair amount more than the Conti's.

Just put the 205/50R17 Conti ExtremeContact DWS' on Mrs T's V50 T5 AWD. Lots to like about 'em. Some ski areas open up this Friday - so will get to try 'em out in the white (S) stuff soon enough. So far, handle great in D (Dry) and W (Wet). The OEM Michelin Primacy MXM4's on my 08 C70 did OK in the surprise snow we had in Seattle last winter - but are worn down now (35K miles) so that I'm breaking contact on dry pavement under hard accelleration. Kinda scary if it's raining. So - will take BlackC70's lead and put 235/45R17 Conti ExtremeContact DWS' on soon. America's/Discount Tire loves me...3 full sets of new tires this year. ;0(

How much mileage did you get out of the PZero Rosso tires? I'm still using them - just hit 7k miles on my 2008 - 18" rims too - and still didn't get all season tires. I really need to wake up and realize my luck is running out and I can't continue much longer using summer tires in NYC winter. Sold my Touareg and so the C70 is my everyday ride. This will be the first winter I'm using this car. How unsafe is it to use the Pirelli Summer tires in very cold but dry weather? Like being on skis????

From a Michigander: I would NEVER run summer tires in snow, even if new. It is just too dangerous. You never realize just how dangerous until it is too late, and your car is lying in a crumpled heap, or worse. At least do your self the courtesy of putting some all season tires on and at least give yourself a fighting chance.

I suppose if it were me, I would just store the tires you have on now and throw them on again next summer while running either snows or all seasons now. I have never been a fan of the Rosso's though. Honestly I would probably just ditch them, buy some 18" snows for winter for use on the stock rims, then find yourself a nice set of aftermarket wheels and tires for the summer seasons. It is MUCH easier to just swap wheels on and off the car than to worry about swapping two sets of tires on and off a single set of rims.

OMG! Here it is Jan 2012 and I'm still riding on the now noisy Pirelli PZero Rosso tires (7500 miles since May 08). It's been really above normal temps in NYC and so far my luck as not run out yet. Top was down yesterday....63 deg. At this point, I'm going to run these tires to the end of their life, and just tough it out when winter cold really sets in. Wow! 10 weeks til St. Patty's Day! Hope winter's been good to everyone so far!

Dang brenda, 7500 miles in three years?!? You could just walk when the roads get bad!!! :)

We traded our '08 with 28K miles on the Michelin Pilot HX MXM 4 and the tires were still showing good tread and performing well. Got the same tire on the '11 and they're doing just fine after 9000 miles. Of course, we don't have a lot of winter weather down here. ;)

hahaha! Actually I run daily 10-15 miles so I get my winter exercise rather than drive! (And I'm old!) I sold my dear gas-guzzling '06 V8 Touareg to some lucky guy in Nov. so I'm down to my summer vehicle only. Hence the reason I really need to get AS tires. Not many choices on the 18" rims either that I'd consider.

Sorry about not replying - I've not checked this forum in a couple/few months.....

I only got 13k miles and change out of the original PZero Rosso tires.

On the Conti ExtremeContact DWS's, I'm currently sitting at 14k miles, and the "S" wear indicators are starting to look a bit faint. (There are three wear indicator "levels" on these tires, indicating sufficient tread for Dry (D), Wet (W), and Snow (S). The S indicator wears off first, then the W, then the D.) Since my car doesn't experience snow, I am expecting a fair amount of additional tire life. But still not all that wonderful.... (This car is mostly driven on non-freeway roads.)
