I'm shocked at the responses I've gotten from Volvo NA regarding the 130mph speed limiter issue on my 04 SR. I have my car in today to get some SW downloads (fogs, seat heaters, rearview sensitivity) and I wanted to get the speed limiter issue changed (I confirmed that I have the 130mph limiter). The dealer had no idea what I was talking about, but said that I could leave the car with them and they would do some research on the issue. They called me back saying that they had no idea what my issue was and that I would get charged labor for the tech to call Volvo to figure it out. So I hopped on SS, found the part number, called him back to give it to him and told him that I expected to pay nothing for the fix. As I was on the phone the Tech asked the SM at the dealership if I would be charged and he said he didn't know I'd have to call Volvo. I convinced him to call Tech hotline and not charge me, so in the mean time I got on the phone with Volvo NA to see what they could do. I got to a hotline specialist and before I had even finished my sentence, she cut me off mid sentence and told me that they would absolutely not cover that, they don't want their cars going any faster than 130 mph. WHAT?!? That's not what I've heard from anyone else. I told her that the issue is grounds for a false advertising lawsuit and that I would pursue it (bluff much?) and she told me she would make some calls. I called the dealership back and he said that Tech hotline said they would cover it, but they needed approval from the aftermarket sales manager or GM, neither of which were in today (go figure). THEN I got a nice cheery call back from Volvo NA saying that they would cover the fix but reiterated that Volvo didn't recommend it because they believe in safety. Whatever, my car deal with it. So I called back the dealership and talked to the SM expecting them to be able to do the fix, but apparently a call from Volvo NA was not enough approval to go through with the fix. So it looks like I'm in for another trip to the dealership, but because I'm driving 11 hours back to school tomorrow I won't be able to come back to this dealership and will have to go through this again. How difficult could they have made this? I'm really surprised and the attitude and incredulity that I got from the Volvo NA hotline. Too bad, I had such high hopes. It also amazes me that I know more and can find answers to problems faster than the people who make a livelihood off of maintaining Volvos. I'm jealous of those of you with knowledgeable dealers. http://********************/smile/emthdown.gif

Re: Refusal to fix speed limiter issue (Evos_R)

IMO go to the dealer and pay for the software but not the install. Screw paying the x money an hour they charge and pay the "i wanna say 26 bucks for the software". I think that is what I paid for it. I hated maxing out at 130. once it was installed she easily got to 155

I'm curious where you guys go to even test out the top speed.

Exactly. I always end up backing off.

I know the R was advertised w/ a top speed of 155 but from a dealer perspective (some) it's gotta seem ridiculous to complain about only being able to drive 130. It's not like anywhere in the US has a legal speed limit above 80.

Yes, I'm aware several dealers did the software upgrade after the R was first released but this is 6 years later for an out of production car.

Having said that, 155 on a public road is just stupid, although I've been tehre done that, and lear a lesson the hard way (2 speeding tickets)

Questions like that are why we have the fifth amendment. Repeat after me kids: "I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that my answer may tend to incriminate me."

155 would put you in jail.....not just a ticket. Hell it would probably get your license revoked too.

I have yet to find an american road surface smooth enough to support speeds anywhere close to those speeds. one little bump and you'd be gone.

Closed track/runway would be the correct answer before the Bumblee Mods get angry.

Does anyone know what an 05 S60 T5M is limited to?

lol... 155 is NOTHING. There are PLENTY of roads that are just fine for high speeds in a car in the US. The law is what stops us. (I'm not saying they should take away speed limits)

That said, I've gone 186mph in my 350Z in downstate IL on a very straight stretch of I-55 with ZERO traffic around. The road was perfectly fine above 150.

oh and lol again at "one little bump" making an R lose control @ 155mph.

Does a re-flash tune from one of the vendors on here get rid of the 130mph speed limiter? My car has it too....and I plan on taking her to Road America next summer where I will EASILY hit 130 on the front straight and it would suck to be stuck there...
