The truth about slotted versus drilled rotors

We often get asked whether drilled rotors are better than slotted and the short answer is that it depends. A drilled rotor does provide certain very slight advantages when it comes to initial pedal feel and heat disipation, however the deciding factor is whether the drilled rotor is a two-piece or single piece rotor. In short, a single-piece drilled rotor is not something we would ever recommend. One track day and the reduced material (from the holes in the rotor) combined with heat will cause instant warping and cracking around the holes. The only time we recommend and sell a drilled rotor is when it is a two-piece rotor. Due to the seperation of the hub and the disc, heat and heat expansion will not affect the disc in the same way. In this situation the disc will stay true for much longer and provide a much more consitent braking performance.

So for the very best in braking performance follow the golden rule below:
single piece rotor = slotted
two-piece rotor = drilled
