Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar’s president, has ambitions for another impressive, exciting, attention-grabbing car, just don’t expect it to be like the Polestar 1.
That’s according to a report from Motor1, which spoke to Ingenlath recently and asked him if there would be a followup to the Polestar 1.
“That’s definitely my plan,” Ingenlath told journalists. “Will it always be a two-door GT? Not at all. It can be whatever concept we feel at that point in time.”
Unfortunately, that’s all he said, so there isn’t much to go on. Polestar has stated that its next two cars will be completely electric, though, rather than hybrid, like the Polestar 1. Polestars 4 and 5 are also on their way—reportedly in 2021—but just what those will look like remains to be seen.
So far, Polestar’s vehicles haven’t strayed too far from the Volvos they’re based on, with Polestar leaning in more on technology and sportiness to set itself apart.
An all-electric SUV with a focus on sportiness, then, could satisfy its needs, would likely find an audience, and likely wouldn’t step on Volvo’s toes—though that is, of course, simply speculation.
The Polestar 1 uses a plug-in hybrid drivetrain to produce roughly 620 hp and Polestar will produce just 500 per year at a Chinese plant in Chengdu.
