More Swedespeed Renderings: 2011 Volvo V60 and V60R Wagon

The S60R renderings and proposal we published earlier this week were such a big hit, we figured we'd carry on with the speculation and not only evolve one of those photos into a V60R sport wagon, but also mock up a few images of how we expect the basic V60 will look when it debuts next year. The above image is how we think that base car will look, along with the rear shot below. The yellow car is our guess (read: dream) about how a V60R will look if it does indeed get the green light.

For those of you thinking "Isn't the V70 the wagon version of the S60," you're both right and wrong. Volvo's mid-size sedan and wagon have evolved together starting with the 850, which then split between body styles as the S70 and V70, then became the S60 and V70 in the next generation. However, the current V70 has outgrown the S60 and now shares a design and its size with the larger S80 sedan. A new model, the V60, will slot between the compact V50 and the current V70, and it'll share a lot with the new S60.

Although the first photos of the new S60 were released last week, the product planning details are still scarce. With the wagon in the mix, you'd have to expect all-wheel drive to carry on, though Volvo's outgoing S60 system is likely to be updated. Direct-injection engines will reportedly be added, and we may see some smaller engines and/or diesels added to the range for the U.S. Of course, the car we want the most is that V60R you see here. But then again, since this author owns an 850 T-5R wagon, maybe we're a bit biased toward that sort of thing. Take a look at the images and let us know what you think in the forums.
