Vizualtech Reinterprets Volvo Amazon Coupe, With Stunning Results

From Vizualtech, the same Swedish firm that delivered some gorgeous renderings of a modernized P1800 some months ago comes a second helping in the form of the elegant Amazon you see here. We have to admit, we don't really know which one we like better. One thing we do know is that they'd make a perfect matching set in our garage.

Viztech's reimagining of the Amazon predictably starts with a lowered ride height and big flashy wheels. From there, Bo Zolland and his team went to work streamlining an already sleek two-door, and it appears the roofline has been chopped down a bit. A dramatic chrome accent strip along each side pays homage to the flair of mid-fifties design cues. Exhaust exits are neatly integrated in front of the rear wheels. The car looks great in black, but even better in red.

Inside, the dashboard design is inspired by the Cunningham C3, and overall the shapes and layout are kept simple and tasteful. Our favorite touch is the intricate stitch pattern on the seats and door cards, but the four-spoke chrome steering wheel is also quite wonderful.

We can't help but remember Matthias Vocks' Amazon wagon from the 2006 SEMA show when we see these photos, which actually makes us hopeful that Vizualtech (who happens to be a company Vocks works with) could execute such a project with amazing results. While the company has hinted at a limited run of P1800 reinterpretations, details are very thin with this Amazon, so all we can do is speculate.

Under the hood, there could be a lot of options for Vizualtech including Volvo's modern diesels or a tweaked inline-five turbo, but for a model like this that harks back to the golden age of motoring and big V8s, the obvious choice would have to be the company's Yamaha-sourced 4.4-liter, which would deliver the seamless torque and deep exhaust note necessary to capture just the right emotions. We seriously hope something real emerges from these renderings.
