2010 Volvo C70 - First Official Facelift Photos Debut Ahead of Frankfurt

Volvo has released the first official photos of the 2010 C70 coupe-cabriolet, which is set to debut in a few weeks when the 2009 Frankfurt Show kicks off the season. Alongside this car, Volvo will show a revised C30 hatchback, which we expect will look quite similar to the C70. There's also a chance the brand will show an all-electric concept version of the revised C30. Today, however, is the C70's day.
Outside, the C70's revisions all happen at its extremities--the doors, glass, roof, and, for the most part, main body panels, are untouched. Up front, more dramatic headlights and a fascia with deeper contours bring the C70's design in line with the new XC60 and is also similar to what the new S60 sedan will look like when it debuts next year. At the rear, the taillights now use LED light tubes, a la XC60, for a thoroughly modern and luxurious look. The color you see in these pictures--Flamenco Red Pearl--is also new.
Volvo says the interior has also been updated, but you'll have to be a current C70 owner or a very good squinter to recognize any changes. According to the press release, "the instrument panel has been redesigned, giving it a wider, sleeker look and the surface of the panel has a new texture that enhances the feeling of quality." Additionally, the car's gauges have been slightly reworked.
We're a big fan of the new taillights, but while the front of the car is certainly more modern and a touch bolder than the current car's, it doesn't carry the same simplistic elegance that we've loved so far about the second-generation C70. Still, we're excited to see it in person and are confident the new look will grow on us in time. The new car will be on sale in Europe by year's end, so a U.S. launch will likely follow by a few months. Pricing changes haven't been announced at this time.
