2011 Volvo S60, V60 Said to be "Remarkably Close" to S60 Concept Car

Motor Trend recently talked with an unnamed Volvo marketing executive, hoping to gather a few details about the upcoming 2011 S60 sedan and V60 wagon. What they got was minimal, but they did get a statement claiming that the production car will be "remarkably close" to the 2009 Detroit concept car. Predictably, however, the version that will go on sale next summer will lack the stunning concept's suicide doors and awe-inspiring hand-blown glass center console. Still, expect curvy styling in line with the XC60 and a sleek, coupe-like roofline.

In terms of size, MT's inside source stated that "If we were a market leader, we could do cars outside the established size classes, but at our size we can't." That means that while the outgoing S60 is more of a 'tweener car, the S60 will remain about the same size (rather than continue to grow) for the sake of going head-to-head with the BMW 3-series, Audi A4, and other competitors in that class. A V60 wagon will follow the sedan and slot below the current V70, and engines should be in line with the XC60's 3.2-liter six and 3.0-liter T6, though a base model may get a five-cylinder for our market. All-wheel drive and front-wheel drive will continue to be the two drive configurations.
