We've already given you our opinion of the wonderful new XC60 versus some of the competition, and now it seems the folks over at Edmunds agree with us. However, their set of cars was quite different from ours, including along with the Audi Q5 the new Cadillac SRX and the Mercedes-Benz GLK350. It's worth noting that a turbocharged 2.8-liter SRX wasn't available, and that may have given the Volvo a little closer apples-to-apples fight.
Regardless, the XC60 came out on top of the Mercedes and Audi, which tied for second place, and spanked the underpowered Caddy, which finished last. The author's top complaint with the XC was the same issue raised by many other outlets, including us; the navigation system and its controls aren't exactly best-in-the-business. Edmunds had a few other complaints, including a suspension that was too soft. Yes, it is soft, but in this segment that might be a good selling point. We didn't feel it hindered the vehicle's performance by much and it made for magnificent highway cruising manners. Damning the car with faint praise, the article went on to point out that "None of our editors would personally choose the Volvo (can you tell?), but we'd unanimously recommend it over the others to most consumers, especially those with families. It's the most sensible new compact luxury crossover on the market -- a standout modern station wagon that does everything but look the part."
