Functioning All-Electric Volvo C30 a Likely Concept For Frankfurt, Production Very Possible

A number of sources have claimed in the past week that Volvo, in addition to working on a hybrid-electric V70, is deep into development of an all-electric C30 to rival Mini's electric car, which is currently being driven by test market customers in New York and Los Angeles. As the rumor has developed, it has also grown more believable and has drawn out more trustworthy sources. The New York Times reported recently that an unidentified source from a company in the electric car development business has told the paper that Volvo is indeed working on this car, citing that the source's company has done some work with Volvo already."Am I reasonably confident that the battery E.V. is a go?" the source asked rhetorically, "Yes."
Between the future plug-in hybrid and the full electric car, the source claims that Volvo has set a combined goal of 5000-10,000 initial sales. However, Volvo's own PR department is still staying hush-hush about the whole thing. Still, that it hasn't been flat-out denied is promising. Other sources predict that a drivable concept version will be shown next month at the Frankfurt show, and that a full-on production car would follow a few years later. We say Volvo jumping ahead in the technology race is a great thing, and this car can't come soon enough, even if it is in very low numbers.
