iG3 charge cable for New Generation USB based iPods, and iPhones.

Finally the solution you have been waiting for: The USB charge cable for the Firewire compliant iMIV™ iPod® adapters! This cable replaces your old iMIV iPod dock cable, and allows all the usual functions, including charging for the latest generation iPods, and iPhones.

You may have heard about rumors of this product, and/or perhaps noticed that is was a long time in coming… yes you are right about that. We started this product development 6 months ago, and though simple in concept were challenged by many obstacles – both commercial (due to the economic downturn and its effect on suppliers) and technical (with Apple making subtle changes). But finally, after many hours of diligent work on 3 continents, Sensolutions and AudioMusic Design are pleased to announce the release of the new iPod charge cable for the current iMIV series of iPod interface adapters for Volvo Cars.

The ”iG3 Charge Cable” as we dubbed it, is a cable that is backwards compatible with Rev 1, and Rev 2 iMIV devices. It converts and connects the Firewire charge voltage to USB specifications. This allows problem free charging of the iPhone (G1 and G3), iPod Classic, iPod Touch (G1 and G2), and the new iPod Nano.

The iG3 Charge Cable is available in 2 lengths: 2.25, and 4.25 meters (7’4” and 14’0” respectively). The mechanics of the charge adapter is housed in an attractive clear anodized aluminum extrusion, offering maximum shielding and heat dissipation while a small LED indicates power status.



But there is more …

With Apple® recently locking the video streaming from the dock connector, we wondered if we could do something about that at the same time. Not wanting to decipher the encryption method Apple is using, we decided to add a dock connector to our design. This dock connector, along with some hidden circuitry, allows users with a composite AV authentication cable to unlock the video out through the iMIV without resorting to plugging this authentication cable into the AUX RCA jacks – the latter actually is something which some iMIV™ users have done in order for them to watch video on the RTI screen. Though this is not a direct unlock, we were successful in conjunction to using the Apple® authentication cable to make the video through the dock connector available to the iMIV™ without sacrificing the AUX port!

Once your iPod™ is unlocked you can watch video content directly from it to your LCD screen. This means that with the authentication cable plugged into the charge housing of this cable (this is the only side you need to connect) you can play the video content from the iPod™ to the RTI Navigation (or aftermarket) screen. The audio and video quality is unaffected by this device. For proper operation of this feature, you need to download the latest firmware, and a “key” file for your iMIV (Classic).

Please note:
This device will only properly work with an Apple® “composite” authentication AV cable (Part Number: MB129LL/B) ‐ Apple in their predictable ways will only unlock component video signals with their “component” authentication cable.
