Podium at Lime Rock Park
Lakeville, CT: August 7: Josh Koropchak drove TKi Motorsport’s Volvo S60 Challenge once again with speed and consistency to clinch a 3rd place podium in NASA Super Touring 2 at the historic Lime Rock Park circuit.
The race weekend was full of anxiousness for Koropchak as this was his first time racing at the legendary track. Finding the limits of the car in the short 20-minute practice session proved challenging. With nearly thirty cars on the 1.53 mile track, Koropchak faced traffic on every lap during qualifying. Without a clean flying lap, his best time set him in fifth place. Unhappy with qualifying, Koropchak was determined to accelerate his way through competitors in the race.
As the pace car pulled into pit, the green flag dropped, and the cars charged hard down the straightaway. Diving into the first turn with some competitors three wide, Koropchak strategically planned each turn, advanced his way through competitors in front of him. With the checkered waving at the end of the 25-minute sprint race, Koropchak had raced his way to 3rd place, the final podium position in the ST2 class.
“The race progressed quite well,” stated Koropchak. “The car is very stable, however, we are making a few adjustments for tomorrow’s race and hope to advance to the top of the standings.”
With a second race on Saturday, minute suspension adjustments were made to enhance grip for the track primarily dominated by right hand turns. Qualifying 3rd in class, the team was very optimistic. Unfortunately, on the second lap of the race, the car suffered a mechanical failure, and retired from the race.
The TKi Motorsport Volvo of Josh Koropchak will appear at WATKINS GLEN INTERNATIONAL ON OCTOBER 2, OCTOBER 3, AND OCTOBER 4.
