The web-based parts dealership www.motoso.de wants to extend their user portfolio by adding motorsports to it’s rooster. A new sponsoring partnership with PSR Volvo Team from the German Endurance Championship is expected to open some doors.

The livery of the PSR Volvo S60 on the Nuerburgring Nordschleife has changed dramatically for 2007. Part of the reason is a new partnership with motoso.de. The internet community for dealing with spare and tuning parts as well as exchanging hints and experiences on this subject wants to use the Volvo S60 to expand their business model into motorsports.

The company was founded in 2004 by Kai Boesel and Felix Jung. Both had worked at a web-based car sales company before. “We realised that everybody in this area was focussing on whole cars but nobody took care of spare parts,” Boesel found a niche. “Hence, we set up an online platform for spare and tuning parts as well as add-ons for normal cars. Ware the link between the selling and searching party, while the actual purchase take place at the dealers themselves.”

From 120,000 parts in October 2004, the virtual stock has grown to 1.6 million in 2007. A little short of people are working on the company’s premises in Hamburg, Germany. “We are not just a virtual company; we want to ensure a good personal contact with our clients and customers,” says Boesel. “Over the past few years, we found a good number of big customers, such as independent workshop chains. They were, of course, very good for us in terms of raising our brand name. But now, we want to approach smaller and higher specialised customers. Our philosophy is especially interesting for petrol heads with a special love who need to search long and hard for their parts.”

Boesel not only wants to focus on road-going cars. “I see a niche in motorsports, too,” he claims. “Every now and then, you find adds for racing spare parts. That’s where we have to come into play. We would like to be the leading online platform for motorsports parts.”

Sponsoring the PSR Volvo Team in the German Endurance Championship thus makes perfect sense for motoso.de. “If you leave out Formula One and DTM, racing on the Nordschleife is the biggest challenge in motorsports,” says Boesel. “Also, unlike in the aforementioned categories, there is a market for spare parts amongst the Nordschleife racers. Our association with the Volvo team, one of the best in this form of motorsports, creates awareness for our business in one of the paddocks where we can find potential customers. And it also carries our name and philosophy to the tens of thousands of specators around the Nordschleife, all of which are – due to their demographics – also potentially interested in what we have on offer. In terms of cost-efficiency and feedback, there is no better sponsoring opportunity for a company like motoso.de than this one.”

Boesel and Jung will attend a few of the races themselves to establish deeper contacts into the scene. In addition to that, Motoso will use the 24 Hour Race in June as a big promotion event in conjunction with the two Volvo S60 to reach both the fans and the competitors. “2007 is a testing year for us,” stresses Boesel. “If our racing project turns out as successful as we expect it to, we will turn it into a long-time partnership.”
