Ipd's new rear camber bushing allows you to adjust for excessive rear camber that can cause premature tire wear, poor braking performance and excessive side hop. Typically excessive negative rear camber occurs when lowering a vehicle via sport springs although, some stock vehicles can also require adjustment. Since there is no factory provision for rear camber adjustment Ipd had to look for a new approach to resolve this issue. We developed an elliptical rear bushing, which replaces the stock bushing in the rear sub-frame. This bushing is identical in dimension to the stock part but we've installed a solid metal sleeve inside, and drilled an off-set hole in this rod. By carefully setting the rotational alignment of our bushing within the sub-frame, it is then press-fit into the sub-frame as a stock bushing would be, but allows for repositioning of the lower control arm to "reel in" as much negative camber as you wish. Your ability to change the rear camber setting is limited only by the limitations of the adjustment range in our bushing and independent of the brand of lowering springs installed on your vehicle.
We are pleased to report to you that our adjustable rear bushing has been installed in a customer's 2005 V70R and works very well. This customer reported an reduction of 1/2 degree in negative camber using only 1/2 of the available range of adjustment. Our test vehicle has accumulated approximately 3,000 miles on our adjustable bushings and is holding its camber and toe-in alignments without incident. We have found that the Ipd bushing will offer up to 1 degree of camber adjustment in your Volvo! The installation procedure is no different than for the replacement of a stock bushing, and the reliability and longevity of this part should be the same as a stock bushing. Not only will this alleviate poor tire wear it can also restore lost braking performance by restoring the contact surface of the tire to the road and help to reduce side hop.
Be sure to have your vehicle aligned before installing these bushings so that you can have a baseline to adjust from. If it's been more than 6 months since your alignment angles were checked, consider having them re-aligned. Ipd strongly recommends professional installation to ensure the proper amount of adjustment is obtained. We have included the factory camber specifications for your convenience. Typical installation time 4 hours. Click here to view this product on the Ipd website
